11. On the Stereoselective Pharmacokinetics of Eflornithine and Prediction of Drug Tissue to Plasma Concentration Ratios
Sammanfattning : Eflornithine is one of two registered drugs for the treatment of late-stage human African trypanosomiasis, a uniformly fatal neglected disease with sixty million people are at risk of being infected. Eflornithine is efficacious but the cumbersome intravenous administration leaves numerous patients untreated. LÄS MER
12. Development of analytical methods for determination of drugs, used against tropical diseases, in biological fluids
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to develop analytical methods for determination of drugs, used against tropical diseases, in biological fluids. For the treatment of malaria, piperaquine (PQ) is used in combination with another antimalarial. LÄS MER
13. Towards time-resolved molecular interaction assays in living bacteria
Sammanfattning : Rare and neglected diseases such as multidrug resistant (MDR) tuberculosis, malaria and trypanosomiasis are re-emerging in Europe. New strategies are needed to accelerate drug discovery to fight these pathogens. LÄS MER
14. Natural Products from Cameroonian Medicinal Plants
Sammanfattning : Natural product chemistry is a main research area in Cameroon, as well as for the division of Bioorganic Chemistry at Lund Institute of Technology. A review of the results obtained recently with Cameroonian medicinal plants shows that a large number of compounds, many with complex structures, have been isolated and characterised, and the work presented in this thesis is part of this effort. 15. Circadian rhythm dysfunction in the suprachiasmatic nucleus : effects of Trypanosoma brucei brucei infection and inflammatory cytokines
Sammanfattning : Alterations in the mammalian circadian pacemaker, the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN), were studied in an experimental rat model of African trypanosomiasis, or sleeping sickness, caused by infections with subspecies of Trypanosoma brucei (T b). Characteristic signs of the disease are marked disturbances in circadian rhythms, such as a fragmentation of the sleep-wake cycle. LÄS MER
