6. Reverse genetic studies of Enterovirus replication
Sammanfattning : Enteroviruses belong to the Picornaviridae family and are small icosahedral viruses with RNA genomes of positive polarity, containing a single open reading frame. They mostly cause mild or asymptomatic infections, but also a wide array of diseases including: poliomyelitis, encephalitis, gastroenteritis, aseptic meningitis, myocarditis, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, hepatitis and respiratory diseases, ranging from severe infections to the common cold. 7. Evolution and host-specific adaptations of Legionella pneumophila
Sammanfattning : How bacteria evolve pathogenic traits is shaped by their communities and environments. Legionella pneumophila is ubiquitous in aquatic habitats, where it persists by replicating within a broad range of protozoan hosts. Using the same mechanisms, L. LÄS MER
8. NEURAL STEM/PROGENITOR CELLS IN THE POST-ISCHEMIC ENVIRONMENT: Proliferation, Differentiation and Neuroprotection
Sammanfattning : Stroke is one of the leading causes of chronic disability and death in the Western world. Today, no treatment can repair the cellular loss associated with an ischemic lesion. LÄS MER
9. Clinical and molecular studies of liposarcoma
Sammanfattning : Aims: (1) To analyse clinicopathological characteristics, treatment and outcome of liposarcoma, and to determine whether, and how, the Scandinavian Sarcoma Group (SSG) treatment guidelines were followed; (2) to analyse tumour volume and morphology response after radiotherapy in myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (MLS/RCLS); (3) to examine the role of the MLS-specific fusion gene FUS-DDIT3 in development of liposarcomas; and (4) to analyse expression patterns of cell cycle regulating proteins in MLS. Methods: (1) A total of 319 liposarcomas reported between 1986?1998 to the SSG Register were reviewed. LÄS MER
10. Complexes of cell-penetrating peptides with oligonucleotides : Structure, binding and translocation in lipid membranes
Sammanfattning : The fundamental element of life known to man is the gene. The information contained in genes regulates all cellular functions, in health and disease. The ability to selectively alter genes or their transcript intermediates with designed molecular tools, as synthetic oligonucleotides, represents a paradigm shift in human medicine. LÄS MER
