11. Common mechanism for teratogenicity of antiepileptic drugs : Drug-induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage
Sammanfattning : The Antiepilptic drugs (AEDs) phenytoin (PHT), carbamazepine (CBZ), phenobarbital (PB), tri- and dimethadione (TMD and DMD) are known teratogens having a common malformation pattern in human and animal studies. This thesis was designed chiefly to test a hypothesis correlating the teratogenicity of these AEDs to episodes of pharmacologically induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage. 12. Epidemiological studies of congenital heart defects in the Southeast region of Sweden
Sammanfattning : In the most recent analysis of Swedish data on congenital malformations, it appeared that in the county of Östergötland, the prevalence of infants with a diagnosed congenital malformation was higher than in the rest of the country. This observation initiated an effort to make a more complete identification of all infants born with a congenital malformation in that county and to compare it with the other two counties in the Southeast region of Sweden (Jönköping and Kalmar), utilising all the relevant Swedish medical health registers available. 13. Pharmacokinetics of the enantiomers of thalidomide
Sammanfattning : Thalidomide has a chiral center and the racemate of (+)-(R) and (-)-(S)-thalidomide was introduced as a hypnotic/sedative drug in 1957. In 1961 it was withdrawn due to teratogenicity and neuropathy. There is a growing interest in thalidomide treatment of immunomodulatory diseases. LÄS MER
14. Monitoring of occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs
Sammanfattning : Antineoplastic drugs are commonly used in the medical treatment of cancer and some other diseases. Workplaces e.g. hospital pharmacies and wards where antineoplastic drugs are used are contaminated with these drugs and health care workers are therefore at risk of getting occupationally exposed. 15. Yolk sac morphology and uterine blood flow are associated with fetal outcome in diabetes pregnancy
Sammanfattning : Women with pregestational diabetes have a 3-5 times increased risk of giving birth to malformed babies compared with non-diabetic women. The malformations are likely to be induced before the seventh week of pregnancy, when the yolk sac is partly responsible for the transfer of metabolites to the embryo, and the uterine blood flow to the implantation site determines the net amount of nutrients available to the conceptus.
