  1. 26. Versatile and Antique World of RNA : The Simplicity of RNA Mediated Catalysis

    Författare :Ema Kikovska; Leif Kirsebom; Venkat Gopalan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Microbiology; RNA Catalysis; RNase P; Metal ions; tRNA Processing; Ribozyme; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : RNA is the only biological molecule that can function both as a repository of information and as a catalyst. This, together with the ability to self-replicate, led to recognition of RNA as ‘prelude to life’.My work highlights some of the important features of RNA as a catalyst, exemplified by RNase P. 2. 27. Mechanisms of Adaptation to Deformylase Inhibitors

    Författare :Anna Zorzet; Dan Andersson; Paul Rainey; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; compensatory evolution; compensatory mutations; protein synthesis; initiation factor 2; initiator tRNA; formylation; peptide deformylase inhibitors; Bacteriology; Bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Geography; Geografi;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem on a global scale. Increasing numbers of bacteria resistant toward one or multiple antibiotics could return us to the high mortality rates for infectious diseases of the pre-antibiotic era. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Calculations of Reaction Mechanisms and Entropic Effects in Enzyme Catalysis

    Författare :Masoud Kazemi; Johan Åqvist; Per E. M. Siegbahn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Enzyme catalysis; Entropy; Cytidine deamination; Ribosome; Peptidyl-tRNA hydrolysis; Peptide bond formation; Empirical valence bond method; Density functional theory; Biology with specialization in Structural Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot strukturbiologi; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Ground state destabilization is a hypothesis to explain enzyme catalysis. The most popular interpretation of it is the entropic effect, which states that enzymes accelerate biochemical reactions by bringing the reactants to a favorable position and orientation and the entropy cost of this is compensated by enthalpy of binding. 4. 29. Post-transcriptional control of stem and cancer cell fate. New roles for an old RNA modification

    Författare :Nicola Guzzi; Avdelningen för molekylär hematologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; RNA modifications; pseudouridine; translational control; Stem cells; tRNA-derived fragments; MDS;

    Sammanfattning : Recent advances in high-throughput sequencing technologies uncovered widespread RNA modifications on coding and non-coding RNAs collectively refer to as the epitranscriptome. However, we are only now starting to appreciate the impact of the epitranscriptome in regulating cell biology. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Comparative genomics of the genus Mycobacterium : Genome evolution, phylogeny and diversity
