6. Lipase Specificity and Selectivity : Engineering, Kinetics and Applied Catalysis
Sammanfattning : The specificity and selectivity of the enzyme Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) were studiedfor several substrates and applications. With help of molecular modeling, the active site of CALB was redesigned for the ring openingpolymerization of D,D‐lactide. LÄS MER
7. Contributions to the understanding of diversity and evolution in the genus Coreomyces
Sammanfattning : The Laboulbeniales is an order of enigmatic ascomycete fungi that are obligate microscopic parasites of arthropods, which are usually non-detrimental. They typically display a high degree of host specificity, and the genus Coreomyces, which is the recurring theme of this thesis, is no exception. LÄS MER
8. Reading a glycocode - mechanism and function of galectin-glycan interactions
Sammanfattning : There is an intensive interest in characterising the structure and function of galectins, which is not surprising given their many important cellular functions and strong implications in human disease. Understanding the mechanisms involved in galectin functions will help to find selective and novel strategies for disease treatment and diagnosis. LÄS MER
9. Enzyme substrate solvent interactions : a case study on serine hydrolases
Sammanfattning : Reaction rates and selectivities were measured for transacylation of fatty acid esters in solvents catalysed by Candida antarctica lipase B and by cutinase from Humicola insolens. With these enzymes classical water-based enzymology can be expanded to many different solvents allowing large variations in interaction energies between the enzymes, the substrates and the surrounding. 10. Exploiting enzyme promiscuity for rational design
Sammanfattning : Enzymes are today well recognized in various industrial applications, being an important component in detergents, and catalysts in the production of agrochemicals, foods, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals. Their large use is mainly due to their high selectivity and environmental advantage, compared to traditional catalysts. LÄS MER
