1. Integration of filamentous fungi in ethanol dry-mill biorefinery
Sammanfattning : The industrial production of bioethanol as a replacement to gasoline is well-established worldwide, using starch- or sugar-rich substrates. Additionally, the bioethanol plants produce animal feeds derived from fermentation leftovers. The biorefinery character of bioethanol plants can be enhanced via process diversification. LÄS MER
2. Contributions to the understanding of diversity and evolution in the genus Coreomyces
Sammanfattning : The Laboulbeniales is an order of enigmatic ascomycete fungi that are obligate microscopic parasites of arthropods, which are usually non-detrimental. They typically display a high degree of host specificity, and the genus Coreomyces, which is the recurring theme of this thesis, is no exception. LÄS MER
3. Effects of forest fire and the ecology of fire-adapted insects
Sammanfattning : Fire is widely recognised for its major impact on boreal forest ecosystems. The altereddisturbance regime due to effective fire suppression and extensive forestry may be a majorthreat to biodiversity. If logging preceded burning, the pyrophilous (Gr. fire-loving) beetle Sericoda quadripunctata failed to reproduce. 4. DNA double-strand break repair in ascomycetes
Sammanfattning : Nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) and homologous recombination (HR) are two pathways for DNA double strand break (DSB) repair. We found that the NHEJ protein Nej1 interacted physically with the HR protein Srs2, which was dependent on phosphorylation of Nej1 by Dun1. Srs2 recruitment to a DSB partly relied on Nej1 and Dun1. 5. Phylogenetic relationships and species richness of coprophilous ascomycetes
Sammanfattning : Coprophilous ascomycetes are a diverse group of saprobes, of which many belong to three families, Delitschiaceae, Phaeotrichaceae and Sporormiaceae, within the large order Pleosporales. The natural relationships and circumscription of these families are unclear, especially within the family Sporormiaceae, where the generic delimitation have been questioned. LÄS MER
