  1. 11. Testosterone : of importance in patients with dysglycemia and cardiovascular disease?

    Författare :Anne Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Testosterone has been associated with cardiovascular (CV) health in men and women with or without diabetes. There are however conflicting results which warrant further investigations to understand if testosterone is important for prognosis, in particular in relation to diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD). 2. 12. The EGF-like Modules of Anticoagulant Protein S. Studies of Ca2+ binding and module interactions

    Författare :Yvonne Stenberg; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; calcium binding; Protein S; EGF-like module; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Sammanfattning : Protein S functions as a cofactor to activated protein C (APC) in the degradation of factors Va and VIIIa. In plasma protein S circulates in two forms; 30-40 % circulates as free protein S molecules while the remaining 60-70 % exists in a 1:1 complex with C4b-binding protein (C4BP). Only the free form of protein S functions as a cofactor to APC. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Structural and Functional Studies of Gas6

    Författare :Jonas Stenhoff; Malmö Klinisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; EDTA; calcium; multimer; monomer; platelets; Mer; Axl; vitamin K; Gas6; human circulation; soluble receptor; Tyro3; receptor tyrosine kinases; growth factor;

    Sammanfattning : The vitamin K-dependent and ubiquitously expressed 82 kDa glycoprotein product of the growth-arrest-specific-gene 6, Gas6, shows 44% sequence identity to the anticoagulant protein, protein S. Both proteins share further the same domain organization. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Circulating markers of risk and etiology in colorectal cancer

    Författare :Justin Harbs; Sophia Harlid; Bethany van Guelpen; Xijia Liu; Henrik Grönberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; CRC; sex hormones; colon cancer; DNA methylation; proteomics; risk; etiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and women. Worldwide around 2 million individuals are diagnosed each year – a number expected to increase as colorectal cancer risk factors become more prevalent. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Hormone concentrations during pregnancy and maternal risk of epithelial ovarian cancer

    Författare :Helena Schock; Eva Lundin; Annika Idahl; Renée Turzanski Fortner; Anne Zeleniuch-Jacquotte; Shelley S Tworoger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; epithelial ovarian cancer; sex steroid hormones; IGF-I; placental GH; AMH; pregnancy; prospective study; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The aim of this thesis was to study the relationship of pre-diagnostic circulating concentrations of sex steroid hormones (androgens, estradiol, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, and progesterone), growth factors (insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), placental growth hormone (GH)), sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) with risk of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) overall, and by tumor invasiveness and histology. A longitudinal study was used to assess patterns of hormonal changes during a single pregnancy, and in two consecutive pregnancies. LÄS MER
