  1. 11. Effects of exercise and amino acid intake on mechanisms regulating protein synthesis and breakdown in human muscle

    Författare :Marcus Moberg; Eva Blomstrand; Hans-Christer Holmberg; Jørgen Jensen; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Resistance exercise; concurrent exericse; leucine; BCAA; mTORC1 signaling; protein synthesis; MuRF-1; PGC-1alpha; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle adapts differently to specific modes of exercise, where resistance training results in muscle growth and endurance training induces mitochondrial biogenesis. These are results of molecular events that occur after each exercise session, increasing the expression of specific genes and the rate of both synthesis and breakdown of protein. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Polycystic ovary syndrome – Studies of metabolic and ovarian disturbances and effects of physical exercise and electro-acupuncture

    Författare :Louise Mannerås Holm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adipocyte size; adipose tissue; androgen excess; animal models; body composition; electro-acupuncture; insulin resistance; ovary; physical exercise; polycystic ovary syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine abnormality in premenopausal women. The syndrome is characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction and polycystic ovarian (PCO) morphology. Metabolic disturbances, such as insulin resistance and obesity, are also associated with PCOS. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Effects of physical exercise on coronary and peripheral vascular function. An integrative physiological study from rat to man

    Författare :Ulrika Hägg Samuelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :exercise; endothelial function; coronary flow velocity reserve; colour Doppler echocardiography; oxidative stress; gene expression; stiffness; ultrasound biomicroscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Physical exercise is beneficial for the cardiovascular health. Numerous epidemiological studies reveal that physical activity reduces the risk of cardiovascular related death. Nevertheless, the underlying vessel wall specific physiological and molecular mechanisms still remain incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Physical Exercise in Cystic Fibrosis -studies on muscle strength, oxygen uptake and lung function in young adult patients

    Författare :Margareta E Sahlberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Lung function; muscle strength; exercise capacity; endurance; resistance training;

    Sammanfattning : Muscular strength, lung function and exercise capacity are internationally reported to be markedly impaired in adult patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Since 20 years physical exercise is one important part in the treatment of patients with CF in Sweden. Handgrip strength is reported to relate to nutrition and activity of daily living. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers

    Författare :Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adjustable grip; blood lactate; centre of pressure; cycle length; cycle rate; economy; efficiency; friction coefficient; heart rate; normal force; OBLA; oxygen uptake; power; ratcheted wheel; ratings of perceived exertion; roller skis; rolling resistance; tangential force; time to exhaustion;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. LÄS MER
