  1. 1. Polycystic ovary syndrome – Studies of metabolic and ovarian disturbances and effects of physical exercise and electro-acupuncture

    Författare :Louise Mannerås Holm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adipocyte size; adipose tissue; androgen excess; animal models; body composition; electro-acupuncture; insulin resistance; ovary; physical exercise; polycystic ovary syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine abnormality in premenopausal women. The syndrome is characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction and polycystic ovarian (PCO) morphology. Metabolic disturbances, such as insulin resistance and obesity, are also associated with PCOS. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Acupuncture in reproductive medicine. Applications in human assisted reproduction and aspects of clinical and experimental neuroendocrinology

    Författare :Elisabet Stener-Victorin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electro-acupuncture; blood flow impedance; circulation; uterine artery; in-vitro fertilization; oocyte aspiration; polycystic ovary syndrome; experimentally induced PCO; anovulation; gonadotropins; steroids; neuropeptides; b-endorphin; nerve growth factor; corticotropin-releasing factor.;

    Sammanfattning : The use of acupuncture in the area of reproductive medicine is relatively new, and it has been rather poorly investigated in the past. When muscle afferents are stimulated by acupuncture in somatic segments related to the innervation of the ovaries and the uterus, functional changes occur in the neural substrate that may influence reproductive function and result in peripheral, segmental and central effects. 3. 3. Adrenoceptors and nerve growth factor. Effects of electro-acupuncture and physical exercise in rats with steroid-induced polycystic ovaries

    Författare :Luigi Manni; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is complex endocrine and metabolic disorder associated with ovulatory dysfunction, follicular cyst and hyperandrogenism. The abnormalities detected in PCOS have been attributed to primary defects in the hypothalamic-pituitary unit, the ovarian microenvironment, the adrenal gland, and the insulin/insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 metabolic regulatory system. 4. 4. Women's experience of pain and pain relief in assisted reproductive technology

    Författare :Ann-Louise Gejervall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :oocyte retrieval; pain relief; randomized controlled trial; pain; fertilization rate; embryo development; Visual Analogue Scale;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate and compare different methods for pain relief during oocyte retrieval and to study women’s expectations and experiences of pain during oocyte retrieval in conjunction with in vitro fertilization. Paper I, an open prospective randomized controlled trial, including 160 women had the primary aims of comparing the pain relieving effects of electro-acupuncture and conventional analgesia, comprising opiates, in conjunction with oocyte retrieval, and to compare post-operative well-being between groups. 5. 5. Acupuncture - effects on muscle blood flow and aspects of treatment in the clinicla context

    Författare :Margareta Sandberg; Björn Gerdle; Lars-Goran Lindberg; Thomas List; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acupuncture; muscle blood flow; non-invasive; photoplethysmography; fibromyalgia; pain; postmenopausal symptoms; psychological distress; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to elucidate and investigate psychophysiological aspects and effects of acupuncture and needle stimulation. Within this framework emphasis was directed toward the effects of needle stimulation (acupuncture) on muscle blood flow in the tibialis anterior and trapezius muscles in healthy subjects and patients suffering from chronic muscle pain.
