  1. 1. The heart rate method for estimating oxygen uptake in walking and cycle commuting : Evaluations based on reproducibility and validity studies of the heart rate method and a portable metabolic system

    Författare :Jane Salier Eriksson; Peter Schantz; Hans Rosdahl; Jostein Hallén; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heart rate; Oxygen consumption; Validity; Reproducibility; Oxycon Mobile; Douglas Bag Method; Cycle commuting; Walking commuting; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Walking and cycling to work can contribute to population health, but more objective knowledge concerning exercise intensities, oxygen uptake and the metabolic demands of this physical activity is needed for this and other evaluations. To attain this, valid and reliable instruments are a requirement. LÄS MER

    Författare :Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adjustable grip; blood lactate; centre of pressure; cycle length; cycle rate; economy; efficiency; friction coefficient; heart rate; normal force; OBLA; oxygen uptake; power; ratcheted wheel; ratings of perceived exertion; roller skis; rolling resistance; tangential force; time to exhaustion;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Theory of economic development : nonlinearity, instability and non-equilibrium

    Författare :Wei-Bin Zhang; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic growth and development; instability; structural change; bifurcation; non-equilibrium; centralization and decentralization; business cycle; the standard neoclassical growth model; growth rate; interest rate; inflation rate; choice of techniques; endogenous technological change;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this study is to propose an economic development theory within the framework of input-output systems and neoclassical economics. This study consists of nine chapters which are arranged in the following manner:In Chapter I, we discuss development problems, define some essential concepts, and provide a general historical sketch of economic growth theory. 4. 4. The rolling resistances of roller skis and their effects on human performance during treadmill roller skiing

    Författare :Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Per Tesch; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood lactate; cycle length; cycle rate; heart rate; oxygen uptake; performance; power; roller skis; rolling resistance; ratings of perceived exertion; work economy; Sports; Idrott;

    Sammanfattning : Modern ski-treadmills allow cross-country skiers, biathletes and ski-orienteers to test their physical performance in a laboratory environment using classical and freestyle techniques on roller skis. For elite athletes the differences in performance between test occasions are quite small, thus emphasising the importance of knowing the roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficient, µR, in order to allow correct comparisons between the results, as well as providing the opportunity to study work economy between different athletes, test occasions and core techniques. Författare :Bojana Petrovic; Ola Eriksson; Marita Wallhagen; Xingxing Zhang; Åsa Wahlström; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building; carbon-dioxide equivalent emissions; global warming potential; primary energy use; life cycle assessment; life cycle cost; Byggnad; koldioxidekvivalenta utsläpp; global uppvärmningspotential; pri-märenergianvändning; livscykelbedömning; livscykelkostnad; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Sammanfattning : The building industry is responsible for 35% of final energy use and 38% of CO2 emissions at a global level. The European Union aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the building industry by up to 90% by the year 2050. Therefore, it is important to consider the environmental impacts buildings have. LÄS MER
