Sammanfattning : This work in two parts – entitled Symbolic Function and Meaning: An Investigation of the Species-Specific Essence of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy – could be characterized as an interpretation of the above-mentioned therapy and the meaning of its particular experience. In the first part, besides a licentiate thesis, four topics are examined: the therapeutic framework, the transference – especially in neurotic form – and its interpretation, psychotherapy with borderline patients, and therapy with psychotics. Sammanfattning : This dissertation discusses distinctions like experience/reality and inner/outer from psychoanalytic, phenomenological and social psychological perspectives. Criticism is raised against the strong dualist tendency of Sigmund Freuds thinking, his general view of the unconscious as the true psychic reality, “external” to the dream experience, as well as his idea that interpretation will bridge the cleavage between images and their “genuine” unconscious meaning. 5. Psykoanalys i ljuset av metafor och metonymi : En analys av Freuds teori om primärprocesstänkande och tolkningsarbete utifrån konceptuell metaforteori
Sammanfattning : The aim of this dissertation is to examine how Conceptual metaphor theory (CMT), with its detailed conceptual framework for various metaphorical and metonymic thought processes, can clarify and deepen psychoanalysis, specifically Freud's theory of the primary process thinking as a central element in his theory of the unconscious, as well as his interpretive work in the case study, Analysis of a phobia in a five-year-old boy (Little Hans). In a broader perspective, my dissertation also has educational relevance as a contribution to the theoretical discussions of meaning and meaning-making. LÄS MER
