36. Intracellular signaling of phosphorylated insitol compounds : a study in pancreatic beta-cells and hippocampal neurons
Sammanfattning : The family of phosphorylated inositol compounds consists of soluble cytosolic inositol phosphates and insoluble inositol phospholipids, localized in cellular membranes and the nuclear matrix. Although inositol phospholipids only account for 5-10% of total plasma membrane lipids, these compounds and their inositol phosphate derivatives play an important role in a broad range of cellular processes including intracellular Ca 2+ signalling, ion channel regulation, vesicle trafficking, both exo- and endocytosis, cell growth and apoptosis. 37. Role of protein-tyrosine phospatases in insulin and glucagon secretion in pancreatic islets of healthy rats and spontaneously diabetic GK rats
Sammanfattning : Both insulin and glucagon secretion from pancreatic beta- and alpha-cells, respectively, are regulated by nutrients such as glucose and amino acids. In addition, the mechanisms leading to exocytosis of hormones are influenced by kinases and phosphatases that phosphorylate and dephosphorylate regulatory proteins respectively. LÄS MER
38. Exploring the interaction between the human microbiota and infections
Sammanfattning : The microbiota is a living ecosystem that is influenced by a variety of host and environmental factors. Distinct microbiota colonizes various body sites, such as the gastrointestinal system and vaginal tract, corresponding to the unique microenvironment. A healthy gut microbiota contains a stable, balanced, and highly diverse reservoir of microbes. LÄS MER
39. Genetic studies of stroke in Northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Stroke is a common disorder of later life with a complex etiology, including both environmental and genetic risk factors. The inherited predisposition is challenging to study due to the complexity of the stroke phenotype. LÄS MER
40. Aspects of interferon alpha signalling in hematopoetic cells
Sammanfattning : The type I interferons (IFN) are a family of cytokines with pleiothropic activities that include inhibition of viral replication, cell proliferation and activation of the immune system. These properties give the IFNs important physiological and pathological roles in infection and cancer and have led to their therapeutic use for many clinical conditions. LÄS MER
