  1. 1. Enterostatin - target proteins and intracellular mechanisms. Function in food intake and energy metabolism

    Författare :Karin Berger; Molekylär endokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP; energy metabolism; insulin; uncoupling protein; beta-casomorphin; opiate; SK-N-MC; INS-1; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; fat intake; F1F0-ATP synthase; appetite; enterostatin; satiety; obesity;

    Sammanfattning : Hunger and satiety are the results of complex neural events that involve several neurotransmitters and peptides. Enterostatin is an appetite-regulating peptide released in the intestine in response to fat ingestion. Enterostatin specifically decreases fat intake, but has also metabolic effects like inhibition of insulin secretion. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Immunogenetics of Childhood Type 1 Diabetes in Immigrant Patients in Sweden. Migration Studies on Type 1 Diabetes

    Författare :Ahmed Delli; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Type 1 Diabetes; Childhood; Human Leukocyte Antigen HLA ; Islet autoantibodies; Zinc Transporter 8 ZnT8 ; Islet antigen IA2- ; Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase 65 GAD65; Insulin; Migration.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examined whether the offspring of immigrants (non-Swedes) to Sweden are at increased risk of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) when they are born or live in Sweden. It also evaluated if their T1D and T2D-related genes differed from Swedish patients and whether this genetic heritage determined the types and existence of islet autoantibodies at time of diagnosis and affected the classification of diabetes. 3. 3. Genetic studies of susceptibility to diabetes mellitus with emphasis on type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Pernilla Holm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is a common multifactorial disease that needs lifelong treatment of insulin and/or oral treatment to prevent hyperglycaemia. Despite treatment, patients with diabetes, still suffer from severe complications later in life. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genetic analysis of candidate susceptibility genes for type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Samina Asad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a complex disease where the pancreatic β-cells are destroyed in an autoimmune attack. For the patients, this leads to lifelong daily insulin treatment and increased risk for various kinds of complications. It is thought that both environmental as well as genetic factors act in concert to cause T1D. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The ins and outs of notch ligands and downstream events

    Författare :Emil Hansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Signaling through the Notch receptor constitutes an evolutionarily conserved pathway important for embryonic development of many organs, including the central nervous system and vasculature, in multicellular animals. The Notch receptor is a transmembrane protein that, upon binding of ligands presented on neighboring cells, undergoes proteolytic processing events leading to the release of the Notch intracellular domain (ICD).
