  1. 1. Inhibition of Calcium and Zinc Absorption by Phytate in Man Methodological Studies and Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals to Improve Absorption

    Författare :Kerstin Fredlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barley; wheat; rye; 65Zn; oats; zinc absorption; whole grains; InsP6; hydrothermal processing; calcium absorption; rice; radionuclide technique; 47Ca; extrinsic labelling; phytate; hydrothermal treatment; myo-inositol; calcium retention; whole-body counting;

    Sammanfattning : A mathematical model based on measurements in a whole-body counter described the retention of calcium in the human body. It was shown that the relative retention of intravenous and orally administered 47Ca in all subjects (n = 10 - 11) were well described by fitting a simple function of time with two free parameters to a few whole-body measurements after day 6, when the unabsorbed calcium had been excreted. 2. 2. Intracellular signaling of phosphorylated insitol compounds : a study in pancreatic beta-cells and hippocampal neurons

    Författare :Jia Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :InsP6; L-type Ca 2 channel; hippocampal neuron; Ins 1; 4; 5 P3; Ca2 ; cyt-MIPP; pancreatic beta-cell; PtdIns 3; 4; 5 P3; Ptdlns 3; 5 P2.;

    Sammanfattning : The family of phosphorylated inositol compounds consists of soluble cytosolic inositol phosphates and insoluble inositol phospholipids, localized in cellular membranes and the nuclear matrix. Although inositol phospholipids only account for 5-10% of total plasma membrane lipids, these compounds and their inositol phosphate derivatives play an important role in a broad range of cellular processes including intracellular Ca 2+ signalling, ion channel regulation, vesicle trafficking, both exo- and endocytosis, cell growth and apoptosis. 3. 3. Phytases in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Exploring genes and proteins for the improvement of strains

    Författare :Jenny Veide; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; phytase; yeast; acid phosphatase; in vitro digestion; PHO; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; phytate; myo-inositol hexaphosphate;

    Sammanfattning : Degradation of myo-inositol hexaphosphate (InsP6, phytate) in food or feed by InsP6-degrading enzymes (phytases) is known to increase the availability of minerals and phosphate, which leads to a higher nutritional value. The aim of this work was to explore the extracellular degradation of InsP6 by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stimulation of insulin secretion independently from changes in cytosolic free Ca²+-concentration : studies with imidazolines and inositol polyphosphates

    Författare :Alexander Efanov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :insulin secretion; pancreatic ß-cell; imidazolines; inositol polyphosphates;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin secretion from the islets of Langerhans is regulated by changes in glucose concentration. Glucose stimulates secretion by two mechanisms. First, it increases cytosolic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) by inhibition of ATP-dependent K+-channels (KATP) and induction of membrane depolarization. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Factors Influencing Phytate Degradation in Piglets. Feed phytate behaviour and degradation by microbial phytases

    Författare :Katrine Pontoppidan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pigs; in vitro digestion; P. lycii; inositol phosphates; phytate; phytase;

    Sammanfattning : Phytate, the main storage form of phosphorus (P) in plant feedstuffs, is indigestible for monogastric animals, and phytases are therefore used as feed additives to increase the digestibility of phytate-P and limit the inclusion of inorganic P. However, new and improved phytases are needed to obtain better phytate digestibility and allow for lower inclusions of inorganic P. LÄS MER
