A general way to explain the outcomes is by referring to the “culture” in which economic and social exchanges take place without specifying what culture means and what it is in culture that affects the economic outcomes. Sammanfattning : Essay 1: (with Mikael Elinder) Since the sinking of the Titanic, there has been a widespread belief that the social norm of “women and children first” (WCF) gives women a survival advantage over men in maritime disasters, and that captains and crew members give priority to passengers. We analyze a database of 18 maritime disasters spanning three centuries, covering the fate of over 15,000 individuals of more than 30 nationalities. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : This anthropological study examines the complexity and importance of gender relations for livelihood activities and it looks at the way in which female- headed agricultural households in the Ethiopian highlands cope in an area renowned for livelihood vulnerability, drought and famine.
