1. A qualitative and quantitative study of nitrotyrosine using mass spectrometry and immunochemistry
Sammanfattning : Background: Reactive oxygen (ROS), and nitrogen (RNS) species are formed during normal metabolism and in higher concentration in pathological conditions. They may cause cellular damage when the antioxidant defence is unable to balance the production of oxidants. LÄS MER
2. Mass spectrometric investigation of protein nitration in inflammation and neurodegeneration
Sammanfattning : The nitration of tyrosine seems to be very common in human diseases and at least forty different diseases have been reported to be associated with an increased nitration of proteins. The nitration of proteins results in a modification of tyrosine, 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT), which is stable. LÄS MER
3. Helicobacter pylori associated effects on inflammatory radical formation and angiotensin II receptors in the stomach
Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori infection of the stomach always results in mucosal inflammation and a marked systemic immune response. Despite the profound host defence reactions the bacterium avoids elimination and persists in the mucosa. This results in chronic inflammation and an increased risk for peptic ulcers and adenocarcinoma. LÄS MER
4. Inducible nitric oxide synthase in experimental urinary tract infection
Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infection (UTI) is among the most common bacterial infections in humans and the majority are caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Abundant evidence indicates that nitric oxide (NO) produced by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS) plays an important role in host defense against infection. LÄS MER
5. Exhaled markers of oxidative stress in the airways
Sammanfattning : Breath contains a number of different molecules, some of which may have potential use as markers for oxidative stress in the airways during chronic airway inflammation. The major objectives were to develop and validate methods for quantifying five potential exhaled markers of oxidative stress: malondialdehyde (MDA) and free 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT) in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) and ethane, pentane and isoprene in exhaled air, and to test the applicability of the methods.
