  1. 11. Stem cell transplantation and regeneration after dorsal root avulsion

    Författare :Carl Trolle; Elena Kozlova; Adam Reid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regeneration; dorsal root; sensory nerve; nerve injury; cell transplantation; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal root avulsion leads to paralysis and loss of sensory function. Surgical methods can improve motor function and ameliorate pain but sensory recovery in adults is poor. Previous studies have shown that cell transplantation or treatment with trophic factors can improve functional outcome in rodents after dorsal root transection or crush. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Regeneration of Peripheral Nerves. The role of protein kinases, with emphasis on neurotrophic factor stimulation

    Författare :Peter Wiklund; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NT-4; NT-3; NGF; MAPK; PKG; PKA; PKC; nodose ganglion; DRG; conditioning effect; neurotrophic factors; protein kinases; peripheral; nerve regeneration; BDNF; GDNF; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of protein kinases in peripheral nerve regeneration, with the use of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and nodose ganglia explants from adult mice. The effects of neurotrophic factor stimulation and protein kinase inhibition were studied for long (days) and short term (minutes) effects. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Experimental Stroke and Neurotrophins: Regulation, function and gene transfer of neurotrophins in rat and mouse models of focal cerebral ischemia

    Författare :Gunnar Andsberg; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; Neurology; animal behaviour; striatum; stereology; immunohistochemistry; focal cerebral ischemia; nerve growth factors; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke caused by focal cerebral ischemia is a major cause of death and neurological disability in humans. The forebrain region most commonly affected by ischemic incidents is that supplied by the middle cerebral artery. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Strategies in Cochlear Nerve Regeneration, Guidance and Protection : Prospects for Future Cochlear Implants

    Författare :Fredrik Edin; Helge Rask-Andersen; Peetra Magnusson; Maoli Duan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human vestibular nerve; Scarpa s ganglion; Stem cells; Nanoparticles; Nanocrystalline diamond; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Oto-rhino-laryngologi; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Today, it is possible to restore hearing in congenitally deaf children and severely hearing-impaired adults through cochlear implants (CIs). A CI consists of an external sound processor that provides acoustically induced signals to an internal receiver. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Molecular mechanisms of nerve-tumor interactions : the intersection of cancer and neurodevelopment

    Författare :Luz Maria Gonzalez-Castrillon; Sara I Wilson; Daniel Öhlund; Nisha D’Silva; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Perineural invasion; cancer; PDAC; axonogenesis; neurodevelopment; spinal cord; axon guidance; bioinformatics.; biomedical laboratory science; biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : A wide range of cancers throughout the body are characterized by high nerve density and invasion of cancer cells within the nerves, a process called perineural invasion (PNI). Work in the field has shown that blocking nerves in organs with tumors leads to improved disease outcomes suggesting that finding ways to block tumor nerves could lead to new treatment approaches.
