  1. 1. Dysfunction in the nigrostriatal system : effects of L-DOPA and GDNF

    Författare :Nina Nevalainen; Ingrid Strömberg; Nancy Zahniser; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson’s disease; L-DOPA; dyskinesia; GDNF; dopamine; glutamate; serotonin; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a common neurodegenerative disorder caused by nigrostriatal dopamine loss, with motor deficiencies as the primary outcome. To increase the striatal dopamine content, patients are treated with 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-l-alanine (l-DOPA). LÄS MER

  2. 2. GDNF and alpha-synuclein in nigrostriatal degeneration

    Författare :Maria Chermenina; Ingrid Strömberg; Guido Nikkhah; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; GDNF; ventral mesencephalon; lateral ganglionic eminence; alpha-synuclein; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a common neurological disorder with a complex etiology. The disease is characterized by a progressive loss of dopaminergic cells in the substantia nigra, which leads to motor function and sometimes cognitive function disabilities. LÄS MER

  3. 3. GDNF gene delivery in an animal model of Parkinson's disease. Long-term effects on intact, injured and transplanted dopamine neurons using lentiviral gene transfer

    Författare :Biljana Georgievska; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; Neurology; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neurophysiology; transplantation; tyrosine hydroxylase; tetracycline; striatum; substantia nigra; sprouting; regulation; neuroprotection; lentivirus; gene therapy; GDNF; behavior; dopamine; neuropsychology;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, leading to a loss of dopamine in the target structure striatum and development of motor symptoms, such as bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor. New experimental treatment strategies for Parkinson's disease are aimed at either preventing the degeneration of the dopaminergic neurons, or at restoring dopamine in the striatum by fetal dopaminergic transplants. 4. 4. Toward a restorative therapy for Parkinson´s disease. Studies on the functional efficacy of intracerebral fetal cell transplants and GDNF delivery

    Författare :Christian Winkler; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neurophysiology; dyskinesia; L-DOPA; behaviour; transplantation; neuroprotection; GDNF; substantia nigra; striatum;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson´s disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of the nigral dopaminergic system. Treatment of disease symptoms using L-DOPA frequently induces side effects such as L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuroprotective and regenerative actions of GDNF and neurturin on nigral dopamine neurons in rat models of Parkinson’s disease – Prospects for clinical use of neurotrophic factors in neurodegenerative disorders

    Författare :Carl Rosenblad; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; striatum; substantia nigra; dopamine; GDNF; neurturin; sprouting; neuroprotection; forelimb akinesia; rotation; tyrosine hydroxylase; transplantation; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is characterized by progressive degeneration of the nigrostriatal dopamine system, which results in tremor, rigidity, akinesia and postural abnormalities. New therapeutic strategies are aimed at halting the neurodegenerative process or restoring the system by transplantation of fetal dopamine neurons. LÄS MER
