  1. 21. Regulation of site-selective A-to-I RNA editing : During mammalian brain development

    Författare :Helene Wahlstedt; Marie Öhman; Mary O'connell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; RNA editering; ADAR; brain development; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Adenosine (A) to inosine (I) RNA editing is a widespread post-transcriptional mechanism in mammals that contributes to increase the protein diversity. Adenosine deaminases that act on RNA (ADARs) are the enzymes catalyzing RNA editing. ADARs are particularly active within the brain where they act on transcripts involved in neurotransmission. 2. 22. Frameshifting as a tool in analysis of transfer RNA modification and translation

    Författare :Ramune Leipuviene; Glenn Björk; Diana Downs; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; minor tRNA; frameshifting; suppression; L9; hopping; tRNA thiolation; [Fe-S] cluster; [Fe-S] protein; TtcA; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of ribosomal reading frame maintenance are often based on frameshift mutation suppression experiments. In this thesis, suppression of a frameshift mutation in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium by a tRNA and a ribosomal protein are described. LÄS MER

  3. 23. RNA-mediated virulence gene regulation in the human pathogen Listeria monocytogenes

    Författare :Edmund Loh; Jörgen Johansson; Nancy Freitag; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Listeria monocytogenes; virulence; ncRNAs; PrfA; 5´-UTRs; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The Gram-positive human pathogen Listeria monocytogenes uses a wide range of virulence factors for its pathogenesis. The majority of its virulence genes are encoded on a 9-kb pathogenicity island and are controlled by the transcriptional activator PrfA. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Unravelling Mechanistic Insights of Eukaryotic Transcriptional Control

    Författare :Johanna Hörberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcriptional control; Gene expression regulation; DNA supercoiling; DNA methylation; DNA-protein recognition; Basic-Leucine-Zipper transcription factors; Basic-Helix-Loop-Helix transcription factors; Sequence specific DNA plasticity; Transcription factor cooperativity; Cancer; Molecular modelling; Molecular dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : DNA transcription involves the association of multiple proteins with DNA to convert the genetic information into messenger-RNA transcripts, which later will be translated into proteins. Con-trolled regulation of transcription is imperative for preserving the healthy and homeostatic state of cells. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Structural Studies of Binding Proteins: Investigations of Flexibility, Specificity and Stability

    Författare :Ulrika Magnusson; Sherry L. Mowbray; Anthony J. Wikinson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Periplasmic binding protein; X-ray crystallography; conformational change; acidophile; protein specificity; protein structure; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Binding proteins are present both in gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. They are the recognition components of the ABC transport systems that transport different nutrients into the cell, and are in some cases also involved in chemotaxis. LÄS MER
