21. Regulation of site-selective A-to-I RNA editing : During mammalian brain development
Sammanfattning : Adenosine (A) to inosine (I) RNA editing is a widespread post-transcriptional mechanism in mammals that contributes to increase the protein diversity. Adenosine deaminases that act on RNA (ADARs) are the enzymes catalyzing RNA editing. ADARs are particularly active within the brain where they act on transcripts involved in neurotransmission. 22. Frameshifting as a tool in analysis of transfer RNA modification and translation
Sammanfattning : Studies of ribosomal reading frame maintenance are often based on frameshift mutation suppression experiments. In this thesis, suppression of a frameshift mutation in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium by a tRNA and a ribosomal protein are described. LÄS MER
23. RNA-mediated virulence gene regulation in the human pathogen Listeria monocytogenes
Sammanfattning : The Gram-positive human pathogen Listeria monocytogenes uses a wide range of virulence factors for its pathogenesis. The majority of its virulence genes are encoded on a 9-kb pathogenicity island and are controlled by the transcriptional activator PrfA. LÄS MER
24. Unravelling Mechanistic Insights of Eukaryotic Transcriptional Control
Sammanfattning : DNA transcription involves the association of multiple proteins with DNA to convert the genetic information into messenger-RNA transcripts, which later will be translated into proteins. Con-trolled regulation of transcription is imperative for preserving the healthy and homeostatic state of cells. LÄS MER
25. Structural Studies of Binding Proteins: Investigations of Flexibility, Specificity and Stability
Sammanfattning : Binding proteins are present both in gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. They are the recognition components of the ABC transport systems that transport different nutrients into the cell, and are in some cases also involved in chemotaxis. LÄS MER
