  1. 6. Long-term changes in macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast : An evaluation of eutrophication effects with special emphasis on increased organic sedimentation

    Författare :Britas Klemens Eriksson; Francisco Xavier Niell Castanera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Baltic Sea; Eutrophication; Fragmentation; Fucus vesiculosus; Functional group; Gullmar Fjord; Macroalgae; Long-term changes; Reproduction; Sedimentation; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I examine and evaluate the effects of a documented large-scale eutrophication on macroalgal vegetation on the Swedish coast. During the past century the load of nutrients has increased manifold in the Baltic Sea area, increasing primary production and organic sedimentation significantly. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Long-term development of subalpine lakes : effects of nutrients, climate and hydrological variability as assessed by biological and geochemical sediment proxies

    Författare :Manuela Milan; Christian Bigler; Monica Tolotti; Richard Bindler; Krystyna Szeroczyńska; Atte Korhola; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleolimnology; diatoms; Cladocera; sub-fossil pigments; geochemistry; wavelengthdispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy; Lake Garda; Lake Ledro; reference conditions; nutrient enrichment; climate change; hydrological regime.;

    Sammanfattning : Sediment records of two Italian subalpine lakes (Lake Garda and Lake Ledro) were analyzed in order to reconstruct their ecological evolution over the past several hundred years. A multi-proxy and multi-site approach was applied in order to disentangle the effects of local anthropogenic forcings, such as nutrients, and climate impacts on the two lakes and their catchments. 3. 8. Symptoms, prehospital delay and long-term survival in men vs. women with myocardial infarction : a combined register and qualitative study

    Författare :Rose-Marie Isaksson; Mats Eliasson; Christine Brulin; Karin Zingmark; Bengt Fridlund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial infarction; symptoms; prehospital delay; men and women; long-term survival; time trend; experiences; Nursing; Omvårdnad; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to study symptoms, prehospital delay and time trends in long-term survival in men and women with myocardial infarction (MI). The study was based on quantitative and qualitative data collections. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Long-term changes of mercury, lead and persistent organic pollutants in arctic environments

    Författare :Carola Lindeberg; Ingemar Renberg; Mats Tysklind; Ove Emteryd; Edvard Karlsson; Per Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediment; time trends; chlordane; hexachlorobenzene; mercury; lead; soil; climate changes; Arctic; Greenland; Sweden; Swedish mountains; PCB; PBDE; pesticides; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic represents a huge area with poor infrastructure contributing to limited possibilities to establish monitoring and research programs. From the investigations that have been performed we know that the arctic environment is affected by anthropogenic emissions from lower latitudes, but knowledge about underlying transport processes, the arctic pollution extent and the rates of changes are limited.
