  1. 11. Enzymatic metal-chelation by porphyrins

    Författare :Andreas Hansson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tetrapyrrole; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; MIDAS; metallation; magnesium chelatase; integrin; heme; ferrochelatase; chlorophyll; barley; AAA ; ATPase;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the structure and function of two different enzymes, ferrochelatase and magnesium chelatase, that catalyse similar reactions. When this work started, a three-dimensional model of ferrochelatase existed. Much was known about the enzyme, but some details remained unclear. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Bacterial cytochromes P450-Studies on Cytochrome P450 102A2 and P450 102A3 of Bacillus subtilis

    Författare :Mattias Gustafsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; AbrB; Spo0A; monooxygenase; heme; Bacillus subtilis; Cytochrome P450; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochromes P450 constitute a super-family of heme containing mixed function mono-oxygenases that is found in all branches of life. They introduce single oxygen atoms, mostly in the form of hydroxyl groups, into lipophilic substances and thereby render them more hydrophilic and susceptible to further reactions. LÄS MER

  3. 13. An Investigation of Peroxidase Activity in Biomimetic and Biological Systems

    Författare :Ekaterina Ryabova; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolism; Metabolism; enzymologi; Proteiner; enzymology; Proteins; hemoglobin; catalysis; peptide; peroxidase; protoporphyrin IX; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In order to create a heme environment which permits biomimicry of heme-containing plant peroxidases and investigate the role played by the vinyl side chains of the porphyrin ring on the stability and, possibly, catalytic activity of model compounds, a number of new synthetic microperoxidases -– hemin-6(7)-gly-his methyl ester (HGH) and hemin-6(7)-gly-gly-his methyl ester (HGGH) and hemin-6,7-bis(gly-gly-his methyl ester) (H2GGH) as well as mesohemin-6(7)-gly-gly-his methyl ester (MGGH) and deuterohemin-6(7)-gly-gly-his methyl ester (DGGH) have been prepared by condensation of a peptide residue with the propionic side chains of hemin, mesohemin and deuterohemin, respectively. Reactivity studies towards different organic and inorganic substrates showed that not only five- but also six-coordinate hemin peptide complexes catalyze the oxidation of substrates by H2O2. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Chemical genetics discloses the importance of heme and glucose metabolism in Chlamydia trachomatis pathogenesis

    Författare :Patrik Engström; Sven Bergström; Ted Hackstadt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chlamydiae; heme metabolism; glucose metabolism; glucose-6-phosphate; RB-to-EB transition; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Chlamydiae are important human bacterial pathogens with an intracellular life cycle that consists of two distinct bacterial forms, an infectious form (EB) that infects the eukaryotic host cell, and a non-infectious form (RB) that allows intracellular proliferation. To be successful, chlamydiae need to alternate between EB and RB to generate infectious EB’s which are competent to infect new host cells. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Structure and Biogenesis of Membrane Proteins

    Författare :Mama Ndi; Martin Ott; Alexander Kastaniotis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cbp3; cytochrome b; respiratory complex III; alternative translation initiation and sodium proton exchange; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins make up about one-third of the cellular proteome. The diverse roles that membrane proteins have in cells include major life-sustaining processes, making them major drug targets. LÄS MER
