6. Evolutionary Studies of the Mammalian Y Chromosome
Sammanfattning : Sex chromosomes are useful in elucidating the evolutionary factors affecting diversity and divergence. In particular, Y chromosome analyses may complement studies using mitochondrial DNA for inferring sex-specific population genetic processes. LÄS MER
7. People of the Dolmens and Stone Cists : An archaeogenetic Investigation of Megalithic Graves from the Neolithic Period on Gotland
Sammanfattning : The study of ancient genomics of pre-historic human remains has in recent years offered unprecedented knowledge regarding pre-historic migration and population structure on the European continent which has fundamentally altered the current views in the archaeological community. However, the merging of the two fields, archaeology and genetics, is still in its infancy and much work is still needed in order for these fields to integrate. LÄS MER
8. Oxidative stress-related factors in abdominal aortic aneurysm: potential clinical implications
Sammanfattning : Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a mostly silent vascular disease, with a rupture-related mortality rate exceeding 80%. To aid in future diagnosis and prognosis efforts, the studies included in the present thesis have explored the role of specific oxidative stress-related factors in the context of AAA using two population-based cohorts: AAA screening cohort of 65-year-old males (n = 421) and the Malmö diet and cancer study (MDCS) (n = 25252). 9. Large carnivore population turnover and ecological change during the Late Quaternary
Sammanfattning : The cave lion (Panthera spelaea), the grey wolf (Canis lupus) and the brown bear (Ursus arctos) all shared an intercontinental distribution across the northern hemisphere during most of the Late Quaternary, and experienced repeated events of climate change. The cave lion went extinct at the end of the Pleistocene and although the wolf and the bear have survived until present day, recent human persecution has caused demographic bottlenecks and local extinctions.
