  1. 1. Distribution and abundance of genetic variation in the arctic fox

    Författare :Love Dalén; Anders Angerbjörn; Robert K. Wayne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :population genetics; DNA; ecology; population history; gene flow; Alopex lagopus;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates how changes in population size and spatial movements of individuals have shaped the distribution and abundance of neutral genetic variation in the arctic fox. This is done through mitochondrial and microsatellite DNA analyses on samples covering most of the species’ distribution, but with special emphasis on Scandinavia. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular Profiling of the Population Dynamics : Foundation and Expansion of an Archaic Domesticate

    Författare :Arman Ardalan; Peter Savolainen; Love Dalén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dog; wolf; dingo; mtDNA; NRY; SNP; Madagascar; Australia; domestication;

    Sammanfattning : "An ‘exponential growth of science’ throughout modern history has been frequently boasted by numerous narcissistic accounts of ‘modern humanity.’ Nonetheless, ‘modern science’ seems to have overwhelmingly compromised on its original promises by fitting into an ‘industrial scheme. 3. 3. Palaeogenomic reconstruction of woolly mammoth evolutionary history and extinction dynamics

    Författare :Marianne Dehasque; Love Dalén; David Díez-del-Molino; Rike Stelkens; Rebecca N. Johnson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; woolly mammoth; Mammuthus primigenius; extinction; Wrangel Island; ancient DNA; palaeogenomics; radiocarbon dating; structural variants; genome erosion; population structure; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Biodiversity is declining globally. Yet, the biological and genetic processes associated with these declines on a longer timescale are still poorly understood. Ancient DNA is a powerful tool to study evolution in real-time. Despite advances in the field, there is further need for refinement of laboratory and computational techniques. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Large carnivore population turnover and ecological change during the Late Quaternary

    Författare :Erik Ersmark; Love Dalén; Jennifer Leonard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The cave lion (Panthera spelaea), the grey wolf (Canis lupus) and the brown bear (Ursus arctos) all shared an intercontinental distribution across the northern hemisphere during most of the Late Quaternary, and experienced repeated events of climate change. The cave lion went extinct at the end of the Pleistocene and although the wolf and the bear have survived until present day, recent human persecution has caused demographic bottlenecks and local extinctions. 5. 5. Genomic insights into the population history of circumpolar Arctic dogs

    Författare :Tatiana Richtman Feuerborn; Anders Hansen; Love Dalen; Mikkel Holger Strander Sinding; Kerstin Liden; Matthew Collins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Dogs; Arctic; Inuit; Migration; Siberia; Greenland; Sled Dog; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : The Siberian and North American Arctic have both borne witness to numerous migrations of humans and with them their dogs. This PhD thesis is based on whole genome data from 22 Siberian dogs and 72 North American Arctic dogs, in addition to 186 mitochondrial genomes Siberian and North American Arctic dogs. LÄS MER
