  1. 1. Controversies over taxonomic and nomenclatural instability: an empirical approach

    Författare :George Sangster; Per Ericson; Mikael Thollesson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Taxonomic names serve two important functions: they reflect hypotheses about the existence of taxa, and they serve as the primary means to communicate about biodiversity. The dual purpose of names is a source of conflict and misunderstanding among taxonomists and end-users of taxonomy. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Climbing the Trichoptera Tree : Investigations of Branches and Leaves

    Författare :Tobias Malm; Kjell Arne Johanson; Wolfram Mey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Trichoptera; Leptoceridae; Symphitoneuria; Gracilipsodes; Triplectides; morphology; DNA; systematics; phylogeny; New Caledonia; Madagascar; new species; new genus; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The Trichoptera (caddisflies) is the largest of the primary aquatic insect orders, currently including more than 13,500 species. With more than 100 species new to science described annually, the known caddisfly diversity is rapidly increasing. In the first four papers of this Thesis, a total of 22 species new to science are described. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Babblers, Biogeography and Bayesian Reasoning

    Författare :Magnus Gelang; Per Ericson; Per Alström; Isabel Sanmartín Bastida; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Africa; Asia; Bayesian inference; biogeography; Cettidae; dispersal; extinction; Middle East; persistence; Sylvioidea; Sylviidae; Timaliidae; vicariance; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I try to proceed one step further towards an understanding of the biogeographic processes forming the distribution patterns of organisms that we see today. Babblers and warblers are diverse groups of passerines that are phylogenetically intermixed with other groups in the superfamily Sylvioidea. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Charting biodiversity : Scuttle flies and other poorly known insects in Sweden

    Författare :Sibylle Häggqvist; Fredrik Ronquist; Jeff Skevinton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Biodiversity has fascinated people in all times. We as a species are part of the global ecosystem and our survival depends on many other species around us. Charting biodiversity, however, has proven more difficult than one could imagine. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gastrotricha of Sweden - Biodiversity and Phylogeny

    Författare :Tobias Kånneby; Ulf Jondelius; M. Antonio Todaro; Sven Boström; Rick Hochberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; taxonomy; systematics; phylogeny; new species; cryptic species; Chaetonotidae; Dasydytidae; Thaumastodermatidae; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning; Livets mångfald;

    Sammanfattning : Gastrotricha are small aquatic invertebrates with approximately 770 known species. The group has a cosmopolitan distribution and is currently classified into two orders, Chaetonotida and Macrodasyida. The gastrotrich fauna of Sweden is poorly known: a couple of years ago only 29 species had been reported. LÄS MER
