  1. 1. Epidemiology of Enterococci with Acquired Resistance to Antibiotics in Sweden : Special emphasis on Ampicillin and Vancomycin

    Författare :Erik Torell; Mats Kallin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; Antimicrobial resistance; enterococci; epidemiology in Sweden; intra-hospital spread; shedding; risk-factors; infection; colonization; virulence factors; ARE; VRE; Php; PFGE; esp; gyrA; parC; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : The first hospital outbreak of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and carriage rates of VRE and ampicillin-resistant enterococci (ARE) in Sweden were investigated. Clonal relationships and mutations in fluoroquinolone resistance determining regions among ARE collected nation-wide were studied. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanisms of resistance to ciprofloxacin in Neisseria gonorrhoeae

    Författare :Emma Lindbäck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neisseria gonorrhoeae; ciprofloxacin; DNA-gyrase; topoisomerase IV; major outer membrane protein;

    Sammanfattning : A few years ago, most strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were susceptible to ciprofloxacin, but after introduction as a first line therapy, resistant strains emerged. Ciprofloxacin inhibit two enzymes necessary for DNA replication. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on the molecular mechanisms of resistance to fluoroquinolones and carbapenems in selected bacterial species

    Författare :Nagwa Mustafa El Amin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The emergence of mutant bacteria with multi-resistant phenotype, no longer responsive to any of the available therapeutic agents is a growing concern. We have investigated the resistance mechanisms to two classes of antibacterials with broad spectrum of activity, carbapenems and fluoroquinolones. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fluoroquinolone resistance in the environment and the human gut – Analysis of bacterial DNA sequences to explore the underlying genetic mechanisms

    Författare :Anna Johnning; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antimicrobial resistance; Quinolones; Pollution; Next generation sequencing; Bioinformatics; Next generation sequencing;

    Sammanfattning : Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are synthetic, broad-spectrum antibiotics that target type II topoisomerases. High-level resistance is often caused by mutations in the target genes of FQs, especially in gyrA and parC. In contrast, plasmid-mediated resistance genes, such as qnr, often confer moderate levels of resistance. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quinolone resistance in Bacteroides fragilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, two opportunistic pathogens

    Författare :Herin Oh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Quinolone; resistance; B. fragilis; P. aeruginosa; topoisomerase; efflux;

    Sammanfattning : Opportunistic pathogens can cause infections in case of structural or functional defects in the host. Examples of Gram-negative opportunists are the Bacteroides fragilis group, anaerobic, non-spore forming rods and the aerobic, non-fermentative rod Pseudomonas aeruginosa. LÄS MER
