  1. 1. Insight into the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway : The interplay of the pro-apoptotic Bax protein with oxidized phospholipids and its counterplayer, the pro-survival Bcl-2 protein

    Författare :Marcus Wallgren; Gerhard Gröbner; Marco Colombini; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; apoptosis; Bax; Bcl-2; CD; cell-free protein synthesis; DSC; membrane; mitochondria; oxidized phospholipids; reconstitution; solid state NMR; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis plays a crucial role in multicellular organisms by preserving tissue homeostasis and removing harmful cells. The anti-apoptotic B-cell CLL/lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and the pro-apoptotic Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) act as major regulators of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Membrane Protein Biogenesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Johannes Reithinger; Gunnar von Heijne; Richard Zimmermann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Membranes are hydrophobic barriers that define the outer boundaries and internal compartments of living cells. Membrane proteins are the gates in these barriers, and they perform vital functions in the highly regulated transport of matter and information across membranes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Survival of onlay bone grafts. A study in the adult rat

    Författare :Monica Gordh; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; polytetrafluoroethylene; artificial; membrane; immunohistochemistry; cortical perforations; bone morphogenetic protein; bone marrow; bone; bone grafts; Odontologi; stomatology; Odontology; skull; tibia;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study onlay bone grafting in the adult rat to improve graft incorporation and perservation of graft size. In 167 adult isogeneic lewis rats, the size maintenance and bone formation at the graft-host interface of uni- and bicortical onlays positioned in various environments and treatments were investigated. 4. 4. Roles of membrane vesicles in bacterial pathogenesis

    Författare :Svitlana Vdovikova; Sun Nyunt Wai; Richard Lundmark; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane vesicles; autophagy; pore-forming toxin; pore formation; Listeria monocytogenes; Vibrio cholerae; virulence factor; PrtV protease; listeriolysin O; V. cholerae cytolysin; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The production of membranous vesicles is observed to occur among organisms from all domains of the tree of life spanning prokaryotes (bacteria, archaea) and eukaryotes (plants, animals and fungi). Bacterial release of membrane-derived vesicles (MVs) has been studied most extensively in cases of Gram-negative species and implicating their outer membrane in formation of extracellular MVs. 5. 5. MORAXELLA CATARRHALIS OUTER MEMBRANE PROTEINS AND INTERACTIONS WITH THE HUMAN IMMUNE SYSTEM

    Författare :Therése Nordström; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycology; Mikrobiologi; virology; Microbiology; C4BP; B-cells; UspA2; Moraxella catarrhalis; virologi; mykologi; bakteriologi; bacteriology; C3; IgD; Moraxella IgD-bindning protein; UspA1;

    Sammanfattning : Moraxella catarrhalis is frequently colonizing the human respiratory tract, particularly in children. This gram-negative bacterium has during the last two decades been recognized as a pathogen causing otitis media in children and lower respiratory tract infections in adults with predisposing conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
