  1. 1. Clinical and immunological aspects of human parvovirus B19 infection

    Författare :Oscar Norbeck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human Parvovirus B19; intrauterine fetal death; hematopoiesis; bone marrow suppression; gamma-interferon; immune response; cytotoxic T cell; acute infection; persistent infection;

    Sammanfattning : Human parvovirus B19 (B19) causes erythema infectiosum, a limited disease of childhood also known as the fifth disease or slapped cheek syndrome, referring to the characteristic facial rash. It normally infects through the respiratory route, even though transmission via blood products and transplanted organs occur. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Human spinal cord transplantation : experimental and clinical application

    Författare :Elisabet Åkesson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The main objectives of this Thesis was to further characterize the in situ human first trimester spinal cord tissue and to evaluate the survival, integration and possible neurological effects of solid human embryonic spinal cord grafts transplanted to cavities in the spinal cord of rat and man. Human-specific neurofilament and Thy-1 positive fibers were observed already at 5 weeks of gestation in the in situ human spinal cord, the earliest stage at which donor tissue was used for intraspinal transplantation. 3. 3. On the cytotoxic and proinflammatory properties of eosinophils

    Författare :Terese Dajotoy; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; CXC chemokines; inflammation; eosinophils; cytotoxic mechanisms;

    Sammanfattning : Eosinophils are multi-functional leukocytes involved in the pathophysiology of inflammatory diseases such as asthma and inflammatory bowel disease. Participation in some neoplastic diseases and in the host defense against helminths has also been postulated. They are considered both good and bad, protecting or harming the host. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Human polymorphonuclear granulocytes in inflammation : studies with an emphasis on nitric oxide

    Författare :Gerd Lärfars; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Polymorphonuclear granulocytes; inflammation; nitric oxide; leukotrienes; tumor necrois factor; rheumatoid arthritis; interferon-gamma; chronic granulomatous disease;

    Sammanfattning : The function of the polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocyte (PMN) is of vital importance in inflammation. For the defense against infections PMNs are armored with different weapons such as chemotaxis, phagocytosis and production of cytotoxic substances. LÄS MER

  5. 5. B- and T- cell responses in colectomized and healthy individuals after mucosal vaccination

    Författare :Jan Kilhamn; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestinal immunity; antibodies; interferon gamma production; ileostomy fluid; enteric vaccines; mucosal vaccination;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims were to study the induction of intestinal and systemic B- and T-cell immune responses in patients colectomized due to ulcerative colitis and in healthy volunteers after mucosal administration of enteric vaccines. An inactivated B-subunit whole-cell (B-WC) cholera vaccine and a live attenuated Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi Ty21a vaccine were used as model immunogens. LÄS MER
