21. Immunoreactive proteins in Taenia solium
Sammanfattning : Taenia solium cysticercosis is a neglected zoonotic disease that constitutes a serious public health problem in many low-income countries of Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Although diagnostic antigens are available, it is still necessary to identify new targets to improve the current diagnostic methods. LÄS MER
22. Lipid Vesicle Fusion: Investigation, Generation and Manipulation of Cell-Membrane Mimics
Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. In this work, cell-membrane mimics were constructed and evaluated as models for studies of the membrane-fusion process. LÄS MER
23. The Membrane-Spanning Domain of Complex I Investigated with Fusion Protein Techniques
Sammanfattning : NADH:quinone oxidoreductase, or complex I, is a large, complex and poorly understood bioenergetic enzyme in the respiratory chain of living organisms. The enzyme has a conserved core structure, comprising fourteen protein subunits: Seven subunits protrude from the membrane and contain a flavin prosthetic group and eight iron-sulfur clusters that guide electrons from the oxidation of NADH towards the quinone binding site(s). 24. HYDROPHOBIC PEPTIDE TAGS - As tools in bioseparation and investigation of recombinant proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the possibility of using hydrophobic peptide tags as tools for bioseparation and for the investigation of recombinant proteins. The hydrophobicity of a protein can easily be changed by minor modifications, such as fusions of tyrosine-containing peptides. LÄS MER
25. Phospholipid membranes in biosensor applications : Stability, activity and kinetics of reconstituted proteins and glycolipids in supported membranes
Sammanfattning : In this study the formation of supported membranes onto planar solid supports has been investigated. The stability and activity of reconstituted membrane receptors has been studied. The potential use of such preparations in biosensor applications is discussed. The lipid films were made by the Langmuir Blodgett and by the liposome fusion techniques. LÄS MER
