  1. 1. Creating cell microenvironments in vitro

    Författare :Patric Wallin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cell migration; lipid bilayers; cell differentiation; liquid handling; surface functionalization; Microfluidics; chemotractant gradients; mammalian cell culture; cell microenvironments; in vitro screening assay;

    Sammanfattning : Stem cells have a great potential to bring about advancements in fields like developmental biology, drug discovery, cancer biology and tissue engineering. In order to be able to use stem cells to their full potential, it is important to have control over their behavior. LÄS MER

  2. 2. From Tissue Engineering to Engineering Education Research: Designing in vitro cell microenvironments and undergraduate research experiences

    Författare :Patric Wallin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teaching research nexus; community of practice; tissue engineering Undergraduate research experiences; cell microenvironments; cell migration; inquiry based learning; surface functionalization; chemotractant gradients; Microfluidics; situated cognition;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis looks at tissue engineering from two perspectives that are closely interconnected with each other: 1) Research in the discipline of tissue engineering that aims to advance our knowledge in the field, and 2) research on how students learn tissue engineering through undergraduate research.In the body, cells are constantly exposed to a concert of different signaling factors that steer their behavior. 3. 3. Targeting Gb3 and apoptosis-related proteins to overcome cisplatin resistance

    Författare :Andreas Tyler; Kjell Grankvist; Simon Ekman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cisplatin resistance; exosomes; gb3; HSP70; the Bcl-2 family; cell research; cellforskning; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Cisplatin is used for treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) but treatment with cisplatin often leads to acquired resistance to cisplatin, resulting in poor patient survival. Globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) and multidrug resistance protein 1 (MDR1) have been associated with cisplatin resistance. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Hyaluronan and Renal Fluid Handling : Studies during Normal and Pathological Conditions of Renal Function

    Författare :Viktoria Göransson; Mats Rundgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; CD44; gerbils; hyaluronan; ischemia-reperfusion; kidney; osmolality; oxygen tension; rat; renomedullary interstitial cells; water; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is the major organ responsible for the regulation of the composition and volume of the body fluids, which is essential for homeostasis. The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan (HA), with extreme water-binding capacity, is present in the interstitium of the kidney with a heterogenous distribution. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Organs-on-chips for the pharmaceutical development process : design perspectives and implementations

    Författare :Jonas Christoffersson; Carl-Fredrik Mandenius; Danny van Noort; Peter Sartipy; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Organs-on-chips; cell culture models; pharmaceutical development; microfluidics;

    Sammanfattning : Organs-on-chips are dynamic cell culture devices created with the intention to mimic organ function in vitro. Their purpose is to assess the toxicity and efficacy of drugs and, as early as possible in the pharmaceutical development process, predict the outcome of clinical trials. LÄS MER
