1. Synthesis and protein curing abilities of membrane glycolipids
Sammanfattning : There are many types of membrane lipids throughout Nature. Still little is known about synthesizing pathways and how different lipids affect the embedded membrane proteins. The most common lipids are glycolipids since they dominate plant green tissue. Glycolipids also exist in mammal cells as well as in most Gram-positive bacteria. LÄS MER
2. Phospholipid membranes in biosensor applications : Stability, activity and kinetics of reconstituted proteins and glycolipids in supported membranes
Sammanfattning : In this study the formation of supported membranes onto planar solid supports has been investigated. The stability and activity of reconstituted membrane receptors has been studied. The potential use of such preparations in biosensor applications is discussed. The lipid films were made by the Langmuir Blodgett and by the liposome fusion techniques. LÄS MER
3. Computer Simulations of Membrane–Sugar Interactions
Sammanfattning : Carbohydrate molecules are essential parts of living cells. They are used as energy storage and signal substances, and they can be found incorporated in the cell membranes as attachments to glycoproteins and glycolipids, but also as free molecules. LÄS MER
4. Solid-State NMR Characterization of Lipid Membranes
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the study of lipid bilayer systems by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance. Two-dimensional 1H-13C separated local field experiments under magic-angle spinning were employed to investigate structural and dynamical modifications of cell membranes, resulting from the addition of compounds with some biological relevance. 5. Activation of neutrophils by mycobacteria and mycobacterial components
Sammanfattning : The genus Mycobacterium includes free-living saprophytes, opportunists, and human pathogens.Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the organism causing tuberculosis, as well as other pathogenicmycobacteria can survive and multiply inside phagocytic cells, but the underlying mechanisms areonly partly understood.
