  1. 1. Spatial regulation of membrane receptor signaling using DNA origami

    Författare :Trixy Fang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Juxtracrine signaling between apposing membrane receptors and ligands is an important class of intercellular communication. Much focus has been directed towards studying the biochemical interactions between receptors and ligands, their surface expression levels and signaling activities for driving downstream signaling processes. Sammanfattning : Contact-Dependent growth inhibition (CDI) was discovered in 2005 in the E. coli isolate EC93. Since then our knowledge of CDI systems and their impact on bacterial communities have increased exponentially. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lipid Vesicle Fusion: Investigation, Generation and Manipulation of Cell-Membrane Mimics

    Författare :Lisa Simonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion; spreading lipid bilayers; cell mimic; micromanipulation; lipid bilayer; microfluidics; site-specificity; DNA; membrane-receptor interactions; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; model system; self-assembly; TIRF microscopy; FRET; exocytosis; vesicles; fluorescence resonance energy transfer; biomembranes; amperometry; membrane fusion;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. In this work, cell-membrane mimics were constructed and evaluated as models for studies of the membrane-fusion process. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Biological membrane interfaces involved in diseases : a biophysical study

    Författare :Fredrick Lindström; Gerhard Gröbner; Dick Sandström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solid-state NMR; DSC; Amyloid-beta peptide; Nociceptin; DMPC; DMPG; DDAB; peptide-lipid interaction; branched-chain fatty acid.; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between peptides and biological lipid membranes play a crucial role in many cellular processes such as in the mechanism behind Alzheimer’s disease where amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta)is thought to be a key component. The initial step of binding between a surface active peptide and its target membrane or membrane receptor can involve a non specific electrostatic association where positively charged amino acid residues and a negatively charged membrane surface interact.
