1. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion
Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs. 2. Membrane-mimetic systems : Novel methods and results from studies of respiratory enzymes
Sammanfattning : The processes localized to biological membranes are of great interest, both from a scientific and pharmaceutical point of view. Understanding aspects such as the detailed mechanism and regulation of these processes requires investigation of the structure and function of the membrane-bound proteins in which they take place. 3. Lipid Vesicle Fusion: Investigation, Generation and Manipulation of Cell-Membrane Mimics
Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. In this work, cell-membrane mimics were constructed and evaluated as models for studies of the membrane-fusion process. LÄS MER
4. The involvement of calcium and membrane fusion events in neutrophil secretion and respiratory burst
Sammanfattning : Neutrophil granulocytes play an important role in host defence during the early stages of microbial infection. The neutrophils have to leave the blood stream and migrate out into the tissue where they are able to phagocytose and kill microbes as well as dispose of cell debris from damaged tissues. LÄS MER
5. Advanced Fluorescence Microscopy to Study Plasma Membrane Protein Dynamics
Sammanfattning : Membrane protein dynamics is of great importance for living organisms. The precise localization of proteins composing a synapse on the membrane facing a nerve terminus is essential for proper functioning of the nervous system. In muscle fibers, the nicotinic acetylcholine is densely packed under the motor nerve termini. LÄS MER
