31. Mixing and Evaporation at the Cloud Edge and Angular Dynamics of Small Crystals in Viscous Flow
Sammanfattning : How liquid water in atmospheric clouds distributes over droplets of different sizes is important for the initiation of rainfall, and for the optical properties of the atmosphere. Droplet-number densities and droplet-size distributions change rapidly at turbulent cloud edges, where mixing of cloudy and dry air causes cloud dilution and droplet evaporation. LÄS MER
32. Inverse Modeling of Cloud – Aerosol Interactions
Sammanfattning : The role of aerosols and clouds is one of the largest sources of uncertainty in understanding climate change. The primary scientific goal of this thesis is to improve the understanding of cloud-aerosol interactions by applying inverse modeling using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation. LÄS MER
33. Engineering Magnetic Droplets in Nanocontact Spin-Torque Nano-Oscillators
Sammanfattning : Spin-torque nano-oscillators (STNOs) are nanoscale spintronic devices capable of generating highly tunable broadband microwave signals. In this thesis, I study nanocontact (NC)-based STNOs using strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA) free layers, where a novel magnetic soliton—a magnetic droplet—exists. LÄS MER
34. Intracellular lipids and inflammatory activity in macrophage foam cells
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is characterized by lipid accumulation and inflammation in arteries. The disease starts early in life with migration of monocytes into the arterial wall where they engulf entrapped lipoproteins and become macrophage foam cell. LÄS MER
35. A new laser-plasma X-ray source for microscopy and lithography
Sammanfattning : A new high-brightness source for soft X-rays and EUV-radiation has been developed. This laser-plasma source utilizes a microscopic liquid droplet or jet as target. The result is a reduction of debris emission by several orders of magnitude compared to conventional laser plasmas. LÄS MER
