  1. 1. Living in a Variable Environment : Reproductive Decisions in Wild Bird Populations

    Författare :Mårten B. Hjernquist; Lars Gustafsson; Marcel Visser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolutionary ecology; competition; sex allocation; paternity; EPP; inadvertent social information; migration; breeding density; territory quality; territory availability; great tit; blue tit; Ficedula albicollis; Biology; Biologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In nature, environments are often variable and heterogeneous influencing ecological and evolutionary processes. This thesis focus on how animals interact with their environment and how that affects the reproductive decisions they make. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Through the eyes of a woodpecker: Understanding habitat selection, territory quality and reproductive decisions from individual behaviour

    Författare :Ola Olsson; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reproductive success; territory quality; habitat selection; giving-up density; Bayesian processes; foraging; Picidae; lesser spotted woodpecker; Dendrocopos minor; conservation; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I present some connections between foraging behaviour and reproductive success, time budget, tree species use, and habitat selection. The thesis is based upon both theoretical and empirical work. All empirical studies concern a south Swedish population of lesser spotted woodpeckers Dendrocopos minor, studied between 1990 and 1996. 3. 3. Spatial and temporal population dynamics in the mountain tundra – mesopredator and prey

    Författare :Rasmus Erlandsson; Anders Angerbjörn; Dennis Murray; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population dynamics; cyclic; mountain tundra; arctic fox; Norwegian lemming; small rodents; mesopredator; predation; survival; reproduction; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : It is well known that competition, predation and fluctuating food resources can have strong effect on individual fitness and population dynamics. The complexity of natural systems can make it complicate to disentangle those processes, but environments with relatively simple food webs, and strong cyclic population dynamics offer contrasting conditions resembling experimental treatments. 4. 4. 'O neighbour, where art thou?' : spatial and social dynamics in wolverine and lynx, from individual space use to population distribution

    Författare :Malin Aronsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The organisation of individuals in space and time influences population structure and dynamics, and is important for our understanding of animal ecology. The aim of this thesis is to gain an increased understanding of the mechanisms driving the abundance and distribution of solitary carnivores, from individual space use to population-level distribution. 5. 5. Habitat composition and restocking for conservation of the white-backed woodpecker in Sweden

    Författare :Kristoffer Stighäll; Per-Erik Olsson; Grzegorz Mikusinski; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; White-backed woodpecker; Dendrocopos leucotos; Sweden; deciduous forest; suitable habitat; fragmentation; saproxylic insects; captive breeding; restocking; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden, intense human land use, especially forestry, has led to profound changes in the landscape over time, especially within the forest ecosystems. A consequence of this is that several specialist species have become endangered. One group of specialists is the woodpeckers. LÄS MER
