  1. 16. REGULATED UPTAKE OF BIOPOLYMERS Role of cell surface proteoglycans Implications for drug and gene delivery

    Författare :Staffan Sandgren; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Cytology; oncology; proliferation; differentiation; Medicine human and vertebrates ; growth factor; cancer; drug delivery; gene therapy; LL-37; HIV-Tat; cell penetrating peptides; polyamines; heparan sulfate; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; internalization; proteoglycans;

    Sammanfattning : Cells continuously export, import, and recycle molecules over the plasma membrane. Internalization, i.e. cellular import of extracellular material, is a fundamental process, which provides cells with nutrients and enables the immune cells of higher organisms to remove debris, sample their surroundings for antigens and to fight microbes. 2. 17. Genetic and Functional Analysis of Cell Adhesion in Muscle

    Författare :Wen Kuang; Urban Lendahl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoological Developmental Biology; zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle is one of the most abundant tissues in the body, and its main function is to generate the force for movement. The mature muscle cell is a giant, elongated, multinucleated cell surrounded by a specialized, extracellular matrix (ECM), the basement membrane (BM). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Structure and Interactions of the Extracellular Matrix Protein PRELP

    Författare :Eva Bengtsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reumatologi; muskelsystem; Skelett; extracellular matrix; PRELP; heparin; heparan sulfate; perlecan; collagen; cell-binding; Skeleton; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the structure and interactions of a novel extracellular matrix protein - PRELP (proline arginine-rich end leucine-rich repeat protein). The amino acid sequence of PRELP showed that it belonged to the leucine-rich repeat (LRR) protein family in connective tissues. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Role of syndecan-1 in tumor cell proliferation and epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity

    Författare :Ashish Kumar Singh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Syndecan-1 (SDC1) is a heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) intercalated in the cell membrane but also translocated to the cell nucleus in a regulated manner. SDC1 is involved in several malignancy-associated processes such as proliferation and migration. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Tartrate resistant acid phosphatase 5a : a potential regulator of adipocyte cell number and differentiation in white adipose tissue

    Författare :Christina Patlaka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) exists in two isoforms, TRAP 5a which is monomeric and TRAP 5b which is a dimer generated by proteolytic cleavage of TRAP 5a, that exhibit different functions and localizations. TRAP 5a is expressed by adipose tissue macrophages and secreted into the extracellular environment and has been shown to lead to hyperplastic insulin-sensitive obesity when over-expressed in mice.
