11. Transforming Growth Factor-b, Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth
Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b) is a well-characterised growth regulatory factor, which acts on most cell types. This thesis has focused on the regulatory roles of TGF-b on normal lymphocytes. One interesting finding is that TGF-b acts both costimulatory and inhibitory on T-lymphocytes. LÄS MER
12. Neuropilin-1 regulation of tumor vascularization and growth
Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from existing ones, is dysregulated during tumor progression as a result of chronic hypoxia and inflammation. Such alterations lead to a lack of vessel hierarchy, and the formation of poorly perfused, leaky and blunt-ended vessels, contributing to disease progression. LÄS MER
13. Extratumoral effects of highly aggressive prostate cancer
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common cancer in Sweden. Most patients have slow growing tumors that will not cause them any harm within their lifetime, but some have aggressive tumors and will die from their disease. LÄS MER
14. Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Tumor Growth Inhibition and Cartilage Differentiation
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis has been focused on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). In the two first studies, the effects of MSCs on tumor growth and development in vitro and in vivo was investigated. LÄS MER
15. Angiogenic growth factors : mechanism of action and function in vascular development
Sammanfattning : The mature vascular system is composed of a network of blood vessels organized into arteries, capillaries, and veins. The vessels are composed of endothelial cells surrounded by smooth muscle cells and embedded in a specialized basement membrane. LÄS MER
