  1. 1. Colorectal cancer and radiation response : The role of EGFR, AKT and cancer stem cell markers

    Författare :Sara Häggblad Sahlberg; Bo Stenerlöw; Bengt Glimelius; Marika Nestor; Torgny Stigbrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; radiation; AKT; EGFR; cancer stem cells; CD133; CD44; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The primary treatment for colorectal cancer is surgery. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy, sometimes combined, are also frequently used to diminish recurrence risk. In response to radiation exposure, several cellular signaling cascades are activated to repair DNA breaks, prevent apoptosis and to keep the cells proliferating. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Role of MTH1 and MYH proteins in genotoxic effects of radiation

    Författare :Sara Shakeri Manesh; Siamak Haghdoost; William F. Morgan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MTH1; MYH; gamma radiation; UV radiation; oxidative stress; low dose rate ionizing radiation; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Humans are constantly exposed to different types of radiations. It has been suggested that low dose and low dose rate of γ-radiation as well as ultra violet A (UVA) induce oxidative stress in cells that may promote mutations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Radiation induced biomarkers of individual sensitivity to radiation therapy

    Författare :Sara Skiöld; Mats Harms-Ringdahl; Siamak Haghdoost; Mats Ljungman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low dose ionizing radiation; radiation sensitivity; proteomics; whole blood; 8-oxo-dG; oxidative stress; acute adverse healthy tissue effects; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Fifty percent of solid cancers are treated with radiation therapy (RT). The dose used in RT is adjusted to the most sensitive individuals so that not more than 5% of the patients will have severe adverse healthy tissue effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ethical aspects of radiation protection

    Författare :Per Wikman-Svahn; John Cantwell; Gustaf Arrhenius; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Radiation; risk; ethics; Philosophy subjects; Filosofiämnen;

    Sammanfattning : This aim of this thesis is to examine ethical aspects of radiation protection from ionizing radiation. Radiation protection is the professional field that deals with the protection of humans and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Radiation-induced apoptosis in human lymphocytes : studies on expression, function and effects of different radiation qualities

    Författare :Annelie Meijer; Fabrizio Palitti; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Apoptosis; clonogenic survival; growth factors; chromosomal aberrations CA ; low dose-rate LDR ; linear energy transfer LET ; relative biological effectiveness RBE ; radio sensitivity; ataxia telangiectasia A-T ; Physical Biology; fysikalisk biologi;

    Sammanfattning : We are constantly exposed to radiation. Radiation causes damage to our cells. By the removal of damaged and unwanted cells, apoptosis is considered to be one of the most indispensable defence processes for a multi-cellular organism. LÄS MER
