  1. 6. Measuring occupational dust exposure with a passive sampler

    Författare :Mariam Shirdel; Ingvar Bergdahl; Britt Andersson; Håkan Wingfors; Christer Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dust particles; mineral; PM10; PM2.5; respirable fraction; UNC passive aerosol sampler; working environment;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: In a working environment it is important to measure dust exposure to evaluate possible health issues. Passive sampling could be an alternative to active sampling with pumps when measuring occupational dust exposure. One passive sampler is the University of North Carolina passive aerosol sampler (UNC sampler). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Inference and Online Learning in Structured Stochastic Systems

    Författare :Kaito Ariu; Alexandre Proutiere; Mikael Johansson; Wouter Koolen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the field of stochastic online learning problems, with a collection of six papers each addressing unique aspects of online learning and inference problems under specific structures. The first four papers focus on exploration and inference problems, uncovering fundamental information-theoretic limits and efficient algorithms under various structures. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Sampling from a suction induced mini-erosion in human skin. Methodological studies

    Författare :Christer Svedman; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular permeability; neurogenic inflammation; glucose; diabetes mellitus; interstitial fluid; transdermal; skin; sampling; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ;

    Sammanfattning : Dermal interstitial fluid (IF) was extracted serially and painlessly by brief suction for as long as 6 days. The erosion was otherwise kept occluded, Sample volumes exceded those required for measuring a wide range of biological substances. Epidermal regeneration was rapid. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Ultrasound in the management of women with post-menopausal bleeding

    Författare :Elisabeth Epstein; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; observer variation; reproducibility; vascularity index; power Doppler; hydrosonography; biopsy; ultrasound; post-menopausal bleeding; malignancy; Endometrium; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate how ultrasound can be used in the diagnostic work-up of women with post-menopausal bleeding (PMB) to optimise and individualise their management. The thesis is based on six studies comprising post-menopausal women with (Study I-VI) and without (Study VI) abnormal bleeding. LÄS MER

  5. 10. An electrostatic sampling device for point-of-care detection of bioaerosols

    Författare :Laila Ladhani; Wouter van der Wijngaart; Jorma Keskinen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electrostatic sampling; bioaerosols; point-of-care; breath sampling; electrostatic precipitation; microfluidic collection; corona discharge; air sampling; non-invasive diagnostics; exhaled breath analysis; on-site detection; aerosol sampling; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Bioaerosols are not only a significant factor of air quality but contribute greatly to the spread of infectious diseases, specifically through expired pathogen-laden aerosols. Clear examples of airborne transmission include: the recent influenza pandemic of 2009, the ongoing tuberculosis epidemic, and yearly norovirus out- breaks, which affect millions of people worldwide and pose serious threats to public healthcare systems.
