  1. 31. Studies of the Effect of Enterovirus Infection on Pancreatic Islet Cells

    Författare :Asma Basheir Elshebani; Gun Frisk; Heiki Hyöty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; type 1 diabetes; Human pancreatic islets; β-cells; chemokines; enterovirus; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD;

    Sammanfattning : Enterovirus (EV) infections have been associated with the pathogenesis of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). However, the pathway(s) by which EV may induce or accelerate diabetes is not well understood. LÄS MER

  2. 32. The Human Pancreatic Islet Methylome and Its Role in Type 2 Diabetes

    Författare :Tasnim Dayeh; Diabetes - epigenetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CpG-SNP; glucagon secretion; insulin secretion; human pancreatic islets; DNA methylation; Epigenetics;

    Sammanfattning : Islet dysfunction is central to the development and progression of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Epigenetic modifications are essential for establishing and maintaining cell identity and function in normal circumstances. Exposure to adverse environmental factors may alter the epigenome, and result in changes of gene expression and the resulting phenotype. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Role of Thrombospondin-1 in Endogenous and Transplanted Pancreatic Islets

    Författare :Johan Olerud; Per-Ola Carlsson; Nils Welsh; Leif Jansson; Thierry Berney; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes mellitus is a severe life-long disease with a pronounced risk of developing secondary complications. One way to avoid the latter is to restore the fine tuning of blood glucose homeostasis by transplantation of pancreatic islets. LÄS MER

  5. 35. The bank vole (Myodes glareolus) – a novel animal model for the study of diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Martin Blixt; Stellan Sandler; Johnny Ludvigsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bank vole; pancreatic islets; diabetes mellitus; hydropic degeneration; proinflammatory cytokine; Diabetology; Diabetologi; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The bank vole (Microtus arvalis) develops glucose intolerance both when kept in captivity and in the wild state. Glucose intolerant bank voles kept in captivity exhibited polydipsia, polyuria, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, islet autoantibodies and a markedly changed islet structure resembling so–called hydropic degeneration.
