  1. 1. Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion. Proinflammatory response and organ dysfunction

    Författare :Knut Olanders; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; Surgery; inflammation; cytokine; leukocyte; reperfusion; ischemia; permeability; Intestine; endothelium;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal I/R is considered to be an important initiating event in several pathophysiological conditions such as trauma, bleeding, sepsis and pancreatitis, frequently leading to concomitant both single and potentially multiple organ dysfunction. The purpose of this thesis was to study mechanims underlying the development of multiple organ dysfunction, with special focus on intercellular proinflammatory regulation in the concurrent development of tissue injury. 2. 2. The bank vole (Myodes glareolus) – a novel animal model for the study of diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Martin Blixt; Stellan Sandler; Johnny Ludvigsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bank vole; pancreatic islets; diabetes mellitus; hydropic degeneration; proinflammatory cytokine; Diabetology; Diabetologi; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The bank vole (Microtus arvalis) develops glucose intolerance both when kept in captivity and in the wild state. Glucose intolerant bank voles kept in captivity exhibited polydipsia, polyuria, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, islet autoantibodies and a markedly changed islet structure resembling so–called hydropic degeneration. 3. 3. Human intestinal T lymphocytes : a comparative analysis of phenotype and function in normal and inflamed mucosa

    Författare :Silvia Melgar; Nadine Cerf-Bensussan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intestinal mucosa; intraepithelial lymphocyte; lamina propria lymphocyte; γδ T cell; regulatory T cell; cytotoxicity; cytokine; basal lymphoid aggregate; ulcerative colitis; Crohn s disease;

    Sammanfattning : The epithelial lining of the gut must allow immediate contact with beneficial components as nutrients and normal microflora. At the same time it runs the constant risk of attack from pathogenic microbes and noxious agents. LÄS MER

  4. 4. CXCL16 and CD137 in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Dick Wågsäter; Allan Sirsjö; Ewa Ehrenborg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; atherosclerosis; chemokine; cytokine; endothelial cells; inflammation; low-density lipoprotein; macrophages; scavenger receptor; smooth muscle cells; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a progressive inflammatory disease that is characterized by the accumulation of lipids, infiltrated cells and fibrous elements in large arteries. This thesis focuses on the molecular mechanisms behind foam cell formation and inflammation, two central processes in the development of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interleukin-6 Signaling Pathways in Human Vascular Endothelial Cells : Molecular Mechanisms and Associations to Atherosclerosis

    Författare :Mulugeta Melkie Zegeye; Liza Ljungberg; Allan Sirsjö; Ashok K Kumawat; Magnus Grenegård; Stefan Rose-John; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HUVECs; Angiogenesis; Laminins; Transmigration; Biomarker; Cytokine; Inflammation; Myocardial infarction;

    Sammanfattning : Interleukin-6 is pleotropic cytokine produced by several types of cells including endothelial cells (ECs). IL-6 acts on target cells via two major signaling mechanisms known as classic signaling and trans-signaling. LÄS MER
