  1. 1. Signaling via Orexin Receptors : A Pharmacological Study

    Författare :Tomas Holmqvist; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Gunnar Flemström; Per Svenningsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; orexin; receptors; calcium; cAMP; adenylyl cyclases; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The orexin receptors are a pair of newly discovered G-protein coupled receptors which are activated by the neuropeptides orexins and play a role in sleep/vigilance, apetite/metabolism and neuroendocrine regulation. On a cellular level receptor activation results in, to name but a few effects, elevation of intracellular calcium and depolarisation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. OX1 Orexin Receptor Signalling to Phospholipases

    Författare :Marie Ekholm; Jyrki Kukkonen; Graeme Milligan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :orexin; phospholipase; Calcium; cell signalling; G protein coupled receptor; ERK; live-cell imaging; arachidonic acid; diacylglycerol;

    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptides orexin-A and orexin-B were discovered in 1998 and were first described as regulators of feeding behaviour. Later research has shown that they have an important role in the regulation of sleep. Two G protein-coupled receptors, OX1 and OX2 orexin receptors, mediate the cellular responses to orexins. 3. 3. Calcium and Phospholipases in Orexin Receptor Signaling

    Författare :Lisa Johansson; Jyrki Kukkonen; Karl Åkerman; Christopher S. Leonard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; orexin; receptor; calcium; phospholipase; cell signaling; GPCR; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptides orexin-A and -B act as endogenous ligands for G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) called OX1 and OX2 receptors. Previous observations have established that orexin receptors have an ability to couple to different G-proteins and signaling pathways and induce Ca2+ elevations via both receptor-operated Ca2+ channels (ROCs) and store-operated Ca2+ channels (SOCs). 4. 4. Neural circuit mapping af orexigenic systems

    Författare :Iris Stoltenborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orexigenic; ghrelin; feeding; food-cue; arcuate nucleus; lateral hypothalamus; orexin; activity-based anorexia;

    Sammanfattning : Orexigenic systems in the brain process appetite and/or hunger information and ultimately coordinate feeding responses. These brain circuits are critical for survival and originally evolved to ensure that we consume sufficient amounts of diverse nutrients to survive future famines. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hypothalamic and Metabolic Dysfunction in Genetic Models of Huntington’s Disease

    Författare :Rana Soylu Kucharz; Translationell neuroendokrinologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Huntington’s Disease; Huntingtin; Hypothalamus; Metabolism; Obesity; orexin; PVN; BAT; TH; neuroendocrinology;

    Sammanfattning : Huntington’s disease (HD) is caused by a CAG trinucleotide repeat expansion in the huntingtin (HTT) gene. HD is an inherited progressive neurodegenerative disorder manifested by the wide array of motor dysfunctions, as well as non-motor symptoms. LÄS MER
