  1. 1. OX1 Orexin Receptor Signalling to Phospholipases

    Författare :Marie Ekholm; Jyrki Kukkonen; Graeme Milligan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :orexin; phospholipase; Calcium; cell signalling; G protein coupled receptor; ERK; live-cell imaging; arachidonic acid; diacylglycerol;

    Sammanfattning : The neuropeptides orexin-A and orexin-B were discovered in 1998 and were first described as regulators of feeding behaviour. Later research has shown that they have an important role in the regulation of sleep. Two G protein-coupled receptors, OX1 and OX2 orexin receptors, mediate the cellular responses to orexins. 2. 2. Lipid Signalling Dynamics in Insulin-secreting β-cells

    Författare :Anne Wuttke; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Louis Philipson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP; β-cell; diacylglycerol; insulin secretion; oscillations; PtdIns 4 P; PtdIns 4; 5 P2; protein kinase C; P2Y receptor; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Certain membrane lipids are involved in intracellular signalling processes, among them phosphoinositides and diacylglycerol (DAG). They mediate a variety of functions, including the effects of nutrients and neurohormonal stimuli on insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Glucose and insulin modulate phagocytosis and production of reactive oxygen metabolites in human neutrophil granulocytes

    Författare :Daniel Saiepour; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Janove Sehlin; Olle Stendahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophil granulocytes; glucose; insulin; protein kinase C; diacylglycerol; phagocytosis; respiratory burst; diabetes; Histology; Histologi;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrophil granulocytes play an important role in the host defence against invading microorganisms and constitute the frontline of defence within the innate immune system and are among the first cells to arrive at the site of inflammation. Effective phagocytosis and killing of invading pathogens by neutrophils is of significant importance for successful resistance to infectious diseases. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of PKCalpha and the role of PKC in neuroblastoma cell migration

    Författare :Helena Stensman; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; neuroblastoma; cell migration; intramolecular interactions; autophosphorylation; Protein kinase C; onkologi; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : Members of the protein kinase C (PKC) family of serine/threonine kinases play critical roles in cellular regulation. Depending on differences in regulation, PKCs can be divided into classical (alpha, betaI, betaII and gamma), novel (delta, epsilon, eta and theta) and atypical (zeta and iota/lambda) isoforms. 5. 5. Lipid Turnover in Plants and Yeast, A Study of Storage Lipid Synthesis and Lipid-Based Signalling in Plants and Yeast

    Författare :Maria Gustavsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; turnover; plasma membrane; plant; PLA2; biosynthesis; S. cerevisiae; triacylglycerol;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, lipid biosynthesis is discussed focussing on the genes and enzymes involved in the final step of storage lipid synthesis, on the enzyme phospholipase A2, and on cell membrane lipid homeostasis. The investigation of lipid metabolism revealed that in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, there are four genes that are essential for the final step of storage lipid biosynthesis; ARE1, ARE2, DGA1, and LRO1.
