  1. 16. A step forward in using QSARs for regulatory hazard and exposure assessment of chemicals

    Författare :Aleksandra Rybacka; Patrik Andersson; Christina Rudén; Anna Linusson; Uko Maran; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; QSAR; in silico; non-testing tools; risk assessment; exposure assessment; hazard assessment; carcinogenicity; mutagenicity; reproductive toxicity; endocrine disruption; estrogen; androgen; transthyretin; sorption; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap; Computer Science; datalogi; Toxicology; toxikologi; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : According to the REACH regulation chemicals produced or imported to the European Union need to be assessed to manage the risk of potential hazard to human health and the environment. An increasing number of chemicals in commerce prompts the need for utilizing faster and cheaper alternative methods for this assessment, such as quantitative structure-activity or property relationships (QSARs or QSPRs). 2. 17. When the Rubber Meets the Road -Ecotoxicological Hazard and Risk Assessment of Tire Wear Particles

    Författare :Anna Wik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tire wear; tire particles; rubber; leaching tests; ecotoxicity tests; Daphnia magna; Ceriodaphnia dubia; Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata; Danio rerio; toxicity identification evaluation; detention ponds; hazard assessment; risk assessment;

    Sammanfattning : Large amounts of rubber particles are dispersed into the environment due to tire wear. The rubber contains a wide range of chemicals, including several of environmental concern. The purpose of this th.. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Bioaccessibility, corrosion and surface properties of metals, alloys and metallic powder in biological fluids of relevance for occupational and consumer health hazard assessment

    Författare :Xuying Wang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Yolanda S. Hedberg; Lars Nyborg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metal and alloy; metal release; synthetic biological fluids; surface oxide; corrosion resistance; hazard assessment; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : When assessing hazards of metals, alloys, and metal-containing items, the metal release (bioaccessibility) is of high importance. Triggered by increasingly stricter hazard classifications for metals, especially cobalt (Co), and limited knowledge, the aim of this doctoral thesis is to assess correlations between the metal/alloy surface characteristics, corrosion and metal release pattern in different simulated biological fluids relevant to human exposure scenarios (dermal, ingestion and inhalation, Papers I-V). Sammanfattning : Flooding is of great concern world-wide, causing damage to infrastructure, property and loss of life. Low-income countries, in particular, can be negatively affected by flood events due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Moreover, data to perform studies for flood risk management in low-income regions are often scarce or lacking sufficient quality. LÄS MER
