  1. 1. Numerical modeling of groundwater and air flow between compacted bentonite and fractured crystalline rock

    Författare :Benoît Dessirier; Jerker Jarsjö; Andrew Frampton; Stefan Finsterle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Two-phase flow; porous media; fractured media; compacted bentonite; crystalline rock; numerical modeling; geological disposal; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The geological repository for final storage of spent nuclear fuel, envisioned by the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Management Company (SKB), relies on several barriers: copper canisters deposited in holes in the floor of underground tunnels in deep bedrock, embedded in a buffer of compacted bentonite. The initially unsaturated buffer would take up water from the surrounding rock mass and swell to seal any potential gap. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lipid-based liquid crystals as drug delivery vehicles for antimicrobial peptides

    Författare :Lukas Boge; Martin Andersson; Lovisa Ringstad; RISE; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Liquid crystals; liquid crystalline nanoparticles; cubosome; hexosome; phase behavior; antimicrobial peptide; AMP; glycerol monooleate; proteolysis; antimicrobial effect; antimicrobial resistance; bacterial membrane; membrane interaction; infection; topical delivery; pulmonary delivery;

    Sammanfattning : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within health sectors worldwide. Thus, demand for new, efficient treatments is urgent in order to treat various bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of antibiotics that have gained more and more attraction in the past decade. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Organic Reactions i Organised Media

    Författare :TOMASZ WITULA; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nucleophilic substitution; mesoporous material; microemulsion; silica; lipase; Liquid crystal; alumina; entrapment.; heterogenized; titania; organic synthesis;

    Sammanfattning : A common problem in synthetic organic chemistry is reactant incompatibility between lipophilic organic compounds and inorganic salts. The thesis reports an investigation of some organic reactions, involving incompatible substrate and nucleophile, performed in liquid crystalline phases and also in slurries of mesoporous materials with different symmetry. 4. 4. Fabrication of nanocellulose-based materials : Liquid crystalline phase formation and design of inorganic–nanocellulose hybrids

    Författare :Christina Schütz; Lennart Bergström; Germán Salazar-Alvarez; Mark MacLachlan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing need to replace fossil fuels as a source of energy and raw material is resulting in extensive research efforts towards identifying and developing high performance materials and devices based on renewable sources. Cellulose being the most versatile and abundant biopolymer in nature is one of the obvious choices. LÄS MER

  5. 5. New Strategies for Preparing Polymers with Hierarchical Architectures

    Författare :Natacha Ndizeye; Ian A. Nicholls; Alessandra Maria Bossi; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Liquid crystalline media; molecularly imprinted polymers; non-ionic deep eutectic solvents; quartz crystal microbalance; Organic Chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to explore novel approaches for controlling morphologies and molecular recognition behaviour of polymers and to use these strategies in conjunction with the molecular imprinting technique in order to either enhance polymer performance in quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor applications, or as an alternative to conventional solvents of polymerization. In Papers I and II, the use of liquid crystalline media in the synthesis of molecularly imprinted polymers was demonstrated. LÄS MER
