  1. 1. Nitric oxide in experimental sepsis

    Författare :Peter Dahm; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Nitric oxide; Sepsis; NO inhalation; Endotoxin; Acute lung injury; ARDS; Nitric oxide synthase; L-NMMA; L-NAME; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; Pigs; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is important in the control of blood pressure and organ perfusion. In septic shock, NO produced by inducible NO-synthase (NOS) has been claimed to mediate pathological vasodilation and cell injury, while NO produced by constitutive NOS may be protective in counteracting hypoperfusion and organ injury. 2. 2. Effects of nitric oxide on hemostasis with special attention to platelet function

    Författare :Johanna Albert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :nitric oxide; bleeding time; platelet aggregation; platelet secretion; P-selectin expression; flow cytometry; NG-monomethyl-L-arginine; L-NMMA; nasal air; skin perfusion; GSNO; humans;

    Sammanfattning : Endogenous endothelium-derived NO provides a continuous vasodilating effect, but may also in humans have an antithrombotic effect, which is exerted by inhibition of platelet function and by vasodilatation. Inhalation of NO selectively relaxes the pulmonary vascular bed, without causing systemic hypotension. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Unusual vascular responses in the umbilical artery, mediated by endothelin-like receptors

    Författare :Maria Laursen; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; sexualitet; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; unusual vascular responses; endothelin-like receptors; human umbilical artery; reproduktion;

    Sammanfattning : In this present study the population of endothelin-like receptors in the human umbilical artery was examined in vitro in different parts of the umbilical cord. Immunohistochemistry revealed ETB receptors in the endothelium and an uneven distribution of ETA receptors in the smooth muscle of the arterial wall, when comparing different parts of the umbilical artery. 4. 4. Gut peptides in gastrointestinal motility and mucosal permeability

    Författare :Md. Abdul Halim; Webb Dominic-Luc; Per M Hellström; Lars Fändriks; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Gut regulatory peptides; Neuropeptides; Gastrointestinal mucosal permeability; Gastrointestinal motility; GLP-1; NPS; ROSE-010;

    Sammanfattning : Gut regulatory peptides, such as neuropeptides and incretins, play important roles in hunger, satiety and gastrointestinal motility, and possibly mucosal permeability. Many peptides secreted by myenteric nerves that regulate motor control are also produced in mucosal epithelial cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension

    Författare :Sven-Olof Granstam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; nitric oxide; endothelin; hypertension; rats; SHR; hemodynamics; blood pressure; blood flow; acetylcholine; carvedilol; microsphere method; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. LÄS MER
