1. Nitric oxide in experimental sepsis
Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is important in the control of blood pressure and organ perfusion. In septic shock, NO produced by inducible NO-synthase (NOS) has been claimed to mediate pathological vasodilation and cell injury, while NO produced by constitutive NOS may be protective in counteracting hypoperfusion and organ injury. 2. Effects of nitric oxide on hemostasis with special attention to platelet function
Sammanfattning : Endogenous endothelium-derived NO provides a continuous vasodilating effect, but may also in humans have an antithrombotic effect, which is exerted by inhibition of platelet function and by vasodilatation. Inhalation of NO selectively relaxes the pulmonary vascular bed, without causing systemic hypotension. LÄS MER
3. Unusual vascular responses in the umbilical artery, mediated by endothelin-like receptors
Sammanfattning : In this present study the population of endothelin-like receptors in the human umbilical artery was examined in vitro in different parts of the umbilical cord. Immunohistochemistry revealed ETB receptors in the endothelium and an uneven distribution of ETA receptors in the smooth muscle of the arterial wall, when comparing different parts of the umbilical artery. 4. Gut peptides in gastrointestinal motility and mucosal permeability
Sammanfattning : Gut regulatory peptides, such as neuropeptides and incretins, play important roles in hunger, satiety and gastrointestinal motility, and possibly mucosal permeability. Many peptides secreted by myenteric nerves that regulate motor control are also produced in mucosal epithelial cells. LÄS MER
5. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension
Sammanfattning : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. LÄS MER
