    Sammanfattning : Studies were performed to improve iodine deficiency control programs. Goitre rates and cassava processing practices were compared in three Central African Republic (CAR) populations. Short-cuts in cassava processing were associated with elevated urinary thiocyanate and increased goitre rates, suggesting a goitrogenic effect in one population. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are synthetic, broad-spectrum antibiotics that target type II topoisomerases. High-level resistance is often caused by mutations in the target genes of FQs, especially in gyrA and parC. In contrast, plasmid-mediated resistance genes, such as qnr, often confer moderate levels of resistance. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis natural science is combined with environmental psychology in order to determine how deforestation and subsequent agricultural expansion in the Peruvian highland jungle has affected the natural environment and rural livelihoods. This region is part of one of the most biodiverse areas on Earth and is also exposed to high pressure from deforestation that threatens the ecosystems as well as the well-being of local populations.     Sammanfattning : Pseudo-guaianolides represent a large group of sesquiterpene lactones exhibiting significant cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory activities. Their biological activities are due to a 훼-methylene-훾-lactone unit in their chemical structure, which reacts with free sulfhydryl groups of free cysteine via a Michael-addition. LÄS MER

In an emergent anthropology of contemporary warfare and the experience of political violence, concepts like coping and negotiation are adopted to encompass the pragmatics of human agency in times of social unrest, flight, and militarily monitored mass destruction.
