16. Granulocyte Adhesion to Matrix Proteins and the Effect on the Release of Granule Proteins : Development of a Simple Method and its Application in Experimental and Clinical Studies
Sammanfattning : Granulocyte adhesion and release of their granule proteins are key steps during selective accumulation of a certain cell to an inflammatory site. Eosinophils are specifically recruited to sites of allergic inflammation and parasitic infection, whereas neutrophil influx predominates in bacterial infection and rheumatoid arthritis. LÄS MER
17. Repair and Reconstruction of Peripheral Nerve Injuries. Treatment with G-CSF and Stromal Vascular Fraction
Sammanfattning : While surgery is a cornerstone in treatment of peripheral nerve injuries, it is not a comprehensive approach, and outcome is unsatisfactory, especially sensory function. The present aim was to translate recent findings about stem- and progenitor cells to improve regenerative outcome, where the cells have to be autologous, available within the same surgical procedure, and minimally manipulated. 18. Cervical ripening : an inflammatory process involving cytokines, metalloproteinases and foetal fibronectin
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to identify cytokines, metalloproteinases and foetal fibronectin in human cervical tissue and to investigate if changes are of importance for the final cervical ripening. The human cervical ripening is a prerequisite for a normal start and progress of labour. LÄS MER
19. Postoperative mediastinitis : risk factors, wound contamination, diagnostic possibilities
Sammanfattning : The aim of these studies has been to investigate different aspects of postoperative mediastinitis. Radiological investigations and biochemical markers of infection and inflammation were examined, risk factors analyzed and spread of bacteria during operation studied. LÄS MER
20. Kostmann syndrome : a clinical and pathophysiological study
Sammanfattning : Kostmann syndrome or severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) is a rare disease, usually diagnosed during the first months of life, characterized by extremely low levels of neutrophils in the peripheral blood, a maturational arrest of the myelopoiesis in the bone marrow and severe bacterial infections. The purpose of this project was to improve the understanding of the clinical course and the pathophysiology of autosomal recessive SCN. LÄS MER
