1. Studies of Eosinophil Cationic Protein (ECP) in vivo and in vitro : Impact of Genetic and Posttranslational Modifications
Sammanfattning : Eosinophil granulocytes are tissue dwelling leukocytes that are implicated in host defence, particularly against helminthic parasites; they also participate in most inflammatory disorders. Although eosinophils have important roles in host defence mechanisms, their actions can also be harmful to the host as in the allergic inflammation where lung epithelium is destructed due to the release of toxic granule proteins. 2. Granulocyte Adhesion to Matrix Proteins and the Effect on the Release of Granule Proteins : Development of a Simple Method and its Application in Experimental and Clinical Studies
Sammanfattning : Granulocyte adhesion and release of their granule proteins are key steps during selective accumulation of a certain cell to an inflammatory site. Eosinophils are specifically recruited to sites of allergic inflammation and parasitic infection, whereas neutrophil influx predominates in bacterial infection and rheumatoid arthritis. LÄS MER
3. Mechanisms of granule protein mobiliation in blood eosinophils
Sammanfattning : Serum levels of eosinophil granule proteins namely ECP, EPO and EPX, which are stored in the matrix of specific granules, were shown to correlate with the course of disease in disorders involving eosinophils. The concentration of eosinophil proteins in serum is the result of their release in vivo and ex vivo during the sampling procedure. LÄS MER
4. Activation of human eosinophils by exogenous danger signals
Sammanfattning : Eosinophilic granulocytes are leukocytes that reside in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Their function in health is unknown. LÄS MER
5. The contribution of eosinophils and mediators in allergic inflammation
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to investigate the development of allergic inflammation. For this purpose human experimental challenge models in skin, nose and bronchi were used as well as pharmacological interventions. A variety of inflammatory cells and mediators have been suggested as important in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. LÄS MER
