  1. 1. On functions of neurotrophic factors in taste buds and teeth

    Författare :Irina Vukmanovic Nosrat; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Chemosensory disorders affect approximately 15% of the U.S. population and an estimated 200,000 individuals visit a doctor each year for problems with their ability to taste or smell (NIDCD). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Factors affecting body weight development and eating behaviour in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis treatment

    Författare :Anders Fernström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :CAPD; computed tomography; dual energy x-ray absorptiometry; electrogastrography; energy intake; ESRD; gastric emptying; HD; intraabdominal fat; protein-energy malnutrition; taste acuity; taste buds;

    Sammanfattning : Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and hemodialysis (HD) have different metabolic effects in dialysis patients, since absorption of intraperitoneal glucose implies an additional energy source in CAPD patients. In spite of this, protein-energy malnutrition is known to occur frequently, both in patients on hemodialysis and in patients on CAPD, and an association with increased morbidity and mortality is well established. 3. 3. Neurothrophins in the development of the gustatory system and teeth

    Författare :Christopher A Nosrat; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Gustation; gustatory; taste buds; neurotrophins; NGF; BDNF; NT-3; NT-4; GDNF; GFRalpha-l; GFRalpha-2; knockout; innervation; development; tooth; tooth development; odontogene sis. Christopher A. Nosrat; 1997;

    Sammanfattning : Flavors of taste are detected by a set of microscopical cellular aggregates called the taste buds, present in different arrangements on the upper surface of the tongue and other areas in the mouth. Taste buds are chemosensors that can detect different taste qualities such as sweet, sour, bitter, salt and umami. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Gut Feelings - From Brain to Gut and from Lumen to Gut

    Författare :Xiaowen Cheng; Neurogastroenterologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Enteric nervous system; cerebral ischemia; galectine-3; tuft cell; CGRP; CCK; GLP-1; 5HT; PYY;

    Sammanfattning : Part 1: From Brain to GutThe brain is an organ with a high energy requirement. To meet this demand, the brain needs a continuous and well-regulated blood supply. In situations where the brain, or parts of the brain, does not receive sufficient blood flow injury arise. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterization of Membrane Proteins: From a gated plant aquaporin to animal ion channel receptors

    Författare :Sabeen Survery; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MIPs; AQPs; TRP ion channels; water transport; themo sensor; Electrophiles;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins play several important roles in a cell. Among these proteins are aquaporins (AQPs) and transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channels that mediate water transport, temperature and noxious chemical sensation, respectively. LÄS MER
