21. Iron and zinc in infancy : results from experimental trials in Sweden and Indonesiaa
Sammanfattning : Background: Iron and zinc are difficult to provide in sufficient amounts in complementary foods to infants world-wide, resulting in high prevalence of both iron and zinc deficiency. These deficiency states cause anemia, delayed neurodevelopment, impaired growth, and increased susceptibility to infections such as diarrhea and respiratory infections. LÄS MER
22. Epidemiology of cardiovascular disease in rural Vietnam
Sammanfattning : In the context of transitional Vietnam, although cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been shown to cause a large burden of mortality and morbidity in hospitals, little is known about the magnitude of its burden, risk factor levels and its relationship with socio-demographic status in the overall population. This thesis provides a preliminary insight into population-based knowledge of the CVD epidemiology in rural Vietnam and contributes to the development of methodologies for monitoring it. LÄS MER
23. Chronic disease risk factors in a transitional country : the case of rural Indonesia

24. Promoting health in adolescents : preventing the use of tobacco

25. Identifying risk of type 2 diabetes : epidemiologic perspectives from biomarkers to lifestyle
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is a significant health problem because of its high prevalence and strong association with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. An increase of type 2 diabetes is predicted due to increasing obesity and sedentary lifestyle habits. LÄS MER
